The Fit India Movement was launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on 29 August 2019 with the vision of ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ and the message ‘Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz’, to make fitness an integral part of everyday life. Over the years, the Movement has expanded its public outreach through flagship campaigns such as National Sports Day, Fit India Carnival, and Sundays on Cycle.

The Fit India School Certification Program is an initiative under the Fit India Movement, launched with the objective of making physical fitness an essential and everyday part of school life rather than an occasional or event-based activity. The program derives its statutory basis from the Gazette Notification and Operational Guidelines of the revised Khelo India Scheme (KIS), which formally provides for a school-level fitness certification mechanism.

This concept note presents the proposed new design of the Fit India School Certification Programme and invites inputs and suggestions from schools, teachers, parents, education administrators, sports bodies, and other stakeholders. The Programme seeks to build a strong, continuing relationship between Fit India and schools by promoting fitness among students, teachers, and staff. It recognises schools that provide regular physical activity and sports opportunities and gives parents a transparent, reliable reference for making informed school choices.

The underlying policy premise is that the school is the first formal institution after home where fitness habits can be systematically taught, practiced, and reinforced in a child's life.

The Fit India School Certification Programme is a vital initiative to combat sedentary lifestyles, but it can be improved through stricter, more transparent criteria. Recommended additions include mandatory 45-minute daily "zero-screen" outdoor play sessions and the implementation of a digital dashboard to display school playground-to-student ratios [1]. Furthermore, integrating nutritional accountability by banning junk food in school canteens is crucial for transforming schools into healthier environments.

"We Fit, Then India Fits" – "Health is true wealth," as we often hear. In my opinion, this is very important in today's times. Nowadays, we spend too much time on mobile phones, TV, and the internet, due to which outdoor sports and exercise have decreased. Keeping this in mind, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, launched the 'Fit India Movement' on August 29, 2019, on the occasion of National Sports Day. The movement carries the beautiful messages "Hum Fit Toh India Fit" (We Fit, Then India Fits) and "Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz" (A dose of fitness, half an hour daily). What I find best about this initiative is that to stay fit, everyone must set aside a little time from their daily routine for their health. We can walk every day, run, cycle, play sports like cricket, kabaddi, or kho-kho, or practice yoga and Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) to stay fit. For students, fitness is especially important because a healthy body helps improve concentration in studies

The Fit India School Certification Programme is a positive initiative that can help make physical fitness a regular part of students’ daily lives. It will encourage schools to provide better opportunities for sports and physical activities while promoting healthy habits among students, teachers, and staff. The programme can also help parents identify schools that give importance to fitness and overall well-being.

Namaskar Modi ji I am sad to hear two Persons dead while cleaning the sewage in Prayagraj and they both were Brahmins. I am sad to see so many incidents coming from UP all the time. Yogi ji is doing good work that is always projected but I am sad to say the real work is rarely seen. Has UP gone 200 years back and it will take 200 more years to make UP good. It is sad state of affairs people are living in such abject poverty. I saw the houses they live via SM.What all UP MLA/MP doing? Yogi ji should teach lessons to these MLA and MPs like he does to Mafia. Looks like Chamchas are more around him. Bad government . Thanks and Regards

The Fit India School Certification concept is a strong step toward embedding fitness into everyday school life. Its statutory basis under Khelo India adds credibility, and the focus on transparency for parents is commendable. To maximize impact, the program should adopt tiered certification levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to encourage gradual improvement. Fitness must be integrated into daily timetables rather than treated as extracurricular, with active participation from teachers and staff to model healthy habits. A digital monitoring system can simplify reporting and ensure accountability. Community engagement through parent–child fitness events will strengthen continuity beyond school hours. Certification should be valid for a limited period (2–3 years) with renewal to sustain commitment. Incentives such as recognition, awards, or funding support will motivate schools to prioritize fitness. Overall, this initiative can become a cornerstone in shaping lifelong fitness culture among
