The Fit India Movement was launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on 29 August 2019 with the vision of ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ and the message ‘Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz’, to make fitness an integral part of everyday life. Over the years, the Movement has expanded its public outreach through flagship campaigns such as National Sports Day, Fit India Carnival, and Sundays on Cycle.

The Fit India School Certification Program is an initiative under the Fit India Movement, launched with the objective of making physical fitness an essential and everyday part of school life rather than an occasional or event-based activity. The program derives its statutory basis from the Gazette Notification and Operational Guidelines of the revised Khelo India Scheme (KIS), which formally provides for a school-level fitness certification mechanism.

This concept note presents the proposed new design of the Fit India School Certification Programme and invites inputs and suggestions from schools, teachers, parents, education administrators, sports bodies, and other stakeholders. The Programme seeks to build a strong, continuing relationship between Fit India and schools by promoting fitness among students, teachers, and staff. It recognises schools that provide regular physical activity and sports opportunities and gives parents a transparent, reliable reference for making informed school choices.

The underlying policy premise is that the school is the first formal institution after home where fitness habits can be systematically taught, practiced, and reinforced in a child's life.

Thank you for sharing the concept note. I support the Fit India Certification is a vision to make fitness, health, and active living an integral part of everyday life. The certification can recognize schools, institutions, communities, and organizations that actively promote physical fitness, mental well-being, healthy lifestyles, and sports participation. The concept aims to establish clear and measurable standards for fitness-friendly environments, including access to sports facilities, regular physical activities, awareness programmers, nutrition education, wellness initiatives, and inclusive participation. Certification levels can encourage organizations to continuously improve their fitness practices. A Fit India Certification can motivate citizens to adopt healthier habits while creating a culture where fitness becomes a shared responsibility. It can also encourage innovation, community participation, and the use of technology to track and promote healthy, more happier India.

Thank you for sharing the concept note. I support the Fit India School Certification Programme and believe it can have a meaningful impact if the criteria are practical and achievable for schools of different sizes and locations. I would suggest the following: Minimum daily physical activity: Schools should provide a fixed amount of physical activity every day, not just occasional sports events. Simple fitness assessment: Conduct basic fitness assessments for students periodically and track improvement rather than focusing only on performance. Participation for every child: The programme should encourage participation by all students, including those who are not interested in competitive sports. Teacher involvement: Teachers and staff should also participate in regular fitness activities and receive basic awareness/training. Use existing facilities:

A Balanced Review of the Fit India School Certification Programme ,As a school administrator and parent, I find this concept note both inspiring and challenging. The vision of making fitness an everyday habit rather than an occasional event is exactly what our children need. The statutory backing from the Khelo India Scheme gives it credibility, and the focus on creating a transparent reference for parents is a game-changer. However, the success lies in execution. The "Aadha Ghanta Roz" mandate is well-intentioned but logistically tough in packed school schedules. More importantly, the program must address the resource gap between well-funded private schools and under-resourced government schools. A graded, equitable certification system is essential to avoid widening this divide.Teacher support is another concern. We cannot add expectations without providing infrastructure and incentives. The program must also ensure that certification becomes a genuine cultural shift, not just a b

The Fit India School Certification programme is a great initiative to encourage students to stay fit and develop healthy habits. I feel the certification should give importance to regular physical activities, good sports facilities, proper playgrounds, and qualified physical education teachers. Schools should also encourage students to take part in activities like yoga, sports, outdoor games and simple fitness exercises on a regular basis. The certification process should be easy and practical for schools to follow, with regular monitoring and appreciation for schools that genuinely promote fitness among their students.
