The Fit India Movement was launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on 29 August 2019 with the vision of ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ and the message ‘Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz’, to make fitness an integral part of everyday life. Over the years, the Movement has expanded its public outreach through flagship campaigns such as National Sports Day, Fit India Carnival, and Sundays on Cycle.

The Fit India School Certification Program is an initiative under the Fit India Movement, launched with the objective of making physical fitness an essential and everyday part of school life rather than an occasional or event-based activity. The program derives its statutory basis from the Gazette Notification and Operational Guidelines of the revised Khelo India Scheme (KIS), which formally provides for a school-level fitness certification mechanism.

This concept note presents the proposed new design of the Fit India School Certification Programme and invites inputs and suggestions from schools, teachers, parents, education administrators, sports bodies, and other stakeholders. The Programme seeks to build a strong, continuing relationship between Fit India and schools by promoting fitness among students, teachers, and staff. It recognises schools that provide regular physical activity and sports opportunities and gives parents a transparent, reliable reference for making informed school choices.

The underlying policy premise is that the school is the first formal institution after home where fitness habits can be systematically taught, practiced, and reinforced in a child's life.

The Fit India School Certification programme is a great initiative to encourage students to stay fit and develop healthy habits. I feel the certification should give importance to regular physical activities, good sports facilities, proper playgrounds, and qualified physical education teachers. Schools should also encourage students to take part in activities like yoga, sports, outdoor games and simple fitness exercises on a regular basis. The certification process should be easy and practical for schools to follow, with regular monitoring and appreciation for schools that genuinely promote fitness among their students.

I am writing in response to the invitation for feedback on the proposed new design of the Fit India School Certification Programme. It is a welcome step to strengthen the Fit India Movement by institutionalising fitness in schools, and I appreciate the opportunity to contribute. My inputs are focused on ensuring inclusivity, strengthening the verification process, and enhancing the long-term impact of the programme.

The Fit India Certification initiative is a positive step towards making fitness an integral part of everyday life. The certification framework should be inclusive, affordable and accessible to students and candidates from all socio-economic backgrounds. Existing Fit India guidance emphasizes fitness as something that should be easy, enjoyable and accessible to everyone. Particular attention should be given to middle-class and economically weaker students, who may not be able to afford private gyms, sports academies, expensive equipment or professional coaching. Certification should focus more on participation, regular physical activity and improvement rather than financial capacity or access to costly facilities.Make Fit India activities free or very low-cost for economically weaker and middle-class students. Promote simple activities such as walking, running, yoga, cycling, traditional games and basic fitness exercises. Ensure equal opportunities for both boys and girls to particpate

Proposal for Revamped Fit India School Certification: Tiered Badging: Implement a Bronze-Silver-Gold progression model to incentivize continuous improvement. Equity over Infrastructure: Grade schools on daily student participation rates and minimum 30-min active play time rather than playground size, ensuring fairness for rural/small schools. Inclusivity (CWSN): Mandate Adaptive Physical Education (APE) metrics and accessible sports routines for Children with Special Needs. Indigenous Sports & Wellness: Incorporate traditional Indian games, daily yoga/stretching breaks, and healthy food policies. Fit School, Fit Family: Track basic fitness metrics biannually on a digital portal accessible to parents, accompanied by community fitness drives. Verification: Use peer-reviews and spot checks to ensure genuine daily adoption over paper compliance.

Subject: Innovative Solution to Stop Public Spitting and Enhance the Swachh Bharat Mission Respected Sir, As a citizen deeply invested in the Swachh Bharat Mission, I have observed the persistent challenge of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces, roads, and Indian Railways due to public spitting, primarily from Pan Masala and Gutkha consumption. 1. Mandatory Spit-Pouches (Under EPR): Make it legally compulsory for all Pan Masala and Gutkha manufacturing companies to attach a small, biodegradable 'spit-pouch' with every single packet. Under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), these companies must be held accountable for the waste their products generate. 2. Natural Price Impact: The added manufacturing cost of these mandatory pouches will naturally increase the MRP of a ₹5 packet to ₹10 or ₹15. This price hike will indirectly help discourage excessive consumption among the masses 3. Strict Enforcement & High Fines: set a fine like ₹5000 if anyone found guilty. Thankyou

Key Proposals for Revamped Fit India School Certification: 1.Tiered Badging System: Adopt a Bronze-Silver-Gold-Platinum progression model to incentivize continuous improvement rather than a single pass/fail standard. 2.Inclusivity for CWSN: Mandate Adaptive Physical Education (APE) metrics and accessible sports equipment for Children with Special Needs. 3.Equity over Infrastructure: Evaluate schools on daily student participation rates and active movement time (minimum 30 mins non-screen play) rather than physical ground size, ensuring fairness for rural schools. 4.Digital Fitness Passport: Track age-appropriate physical metrics (stamina, agility, strength) biannually through a digital scorecard accessible to parents. 5.Holistic Wellness: Include daily yoga/mindfulness sessions, healthy canteen policies, and Parent-Teacher Fitness Days to foster a complete community culture of fitness.
