All street lights to be converted to LED lamps. Government to invest on solar panels to cover the cost of the street lighting.

Waste segregation hasn’t picked or at least I am not aware of what is happening (esp. after the Guinness record event). A daily dashboard of what is happening should be published in the newspapers just like the weather forecast, share and gold prices.

Apartments, Gated communities, Nagars and colonies to have garbage collection/drop center within their campus/premise. They should not be allowed to drop anywhere outside. There shouldn’t be any bins on the main roads to facilitate the commercial establishments.

All houses should plant 1 tree mandatorily. Government could collect the required fees as part of the corporation tax and assist the residence in planting if there is no adequate space

Continued... All department officials(representative), including an anti corruption official, should meet the public once a week(one zone per week) on a common dais to hear the complaints if any not solved thru online and clear them up before they meet again in that area for the next time. Depending on the aging of the cases, it should bubble up to the next level officials.

All government office related activities should be made online with proper workflow implemented in. There shouldn’t be anyone visiting the government offices to get things done. This will greatly cut down the bribe culture. All browsing centers should be instructed (or made mandatory) to support the citizens without computer knowledge in filling their cases, etc...

Basics like parking violation, speeding, riding without helmet, sound horn, drunken driving, school kid driving should be addressed by adding adequate resources (thru non-uniformed police or thru private agencies). The fine collected should be more than enough to support the man power requirement for this exercise and also for the welfare of the police station involved.

Pedestrian Friendly : The first criteria to make a city smart is that it is pedestrian friendly which is non-existent in Coimbatore. With no side-walks(footpath), under-pass nor over-bridge even on busy arterial roads, pedestrians including school children are at high risk when walking/crossing roads. Solution : 1. One minute pedestrian walk time at all signals. 2. Remove encroachments from footpaths and plug holes. 3. Build new footpaths where none exist. Make Cbe,a safe smart city.

These are my suggestions to build a perfect smart city:- 1. Widen roads and construct flyovers 2. Place garbage bins and recycling plants 3. Underground drainage and underground electricity/telephone cables 4. Vehicle parking lots 5. Pavements should be laid on both sides of the road to facilitate pedestrians and cyclists 6. Modern machinery used to clean roads 7. Smoking, spitting, littering everything should be fined and put behind bars if unable to pay fine
