Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Coimbatore are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Coimbatore a Smart one. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics

1. What should be the Vision of the Coimbatore
2. Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors

a. City Spatial Structure, Transportation and Green Spaces
b. Energy, Water, Waste Water and Environment
c. Housing, Health, Education, Security, Law and Order
d. Citizen Engagement, Smart Solutions and IT-led service delivery

Decongest all high traffic highways in city: SUGGESTION: 1. Build a direct two lane x two lane Parallel flyover running parallely over Avinashi Road from Anna Statue to Sitra Airport Junction, having landings at important junctions.. 2. Build MRTS or parallel metro rails in following routes a. from Sitra to Western end ie Marudamalai . b. from Thudiayalur to Ukkadam

6. Infrastructure - fix pot holes/relay roads/build flyovers in critical areas - railway crossings, over-crowded places. Popuralize public transportation - bring in metro with all amenities and connect critical areas. 7. Ensure all mesaures are taken to bring IT/software to Coimbatore, esp. big companies like Infosys, TCs via transparency, subsidy (known to all - coimbatore is an education hub and has all the essential ingredients to have huge IT presence).

4. Tree-plantation: establish a small group of staff to advertize, trigger and coordinate tree plantation (via collaboration with educational institutions/hospitals/government offices/etc. - e.g., having a tree-plantation hour every hour). 5. Have CCTVs in areas where bribes/irregularities are believed to prevail - police stations/traffic lights/government offices and establish a simple mechanism for citizens to access the footages for incidents related to them.

1. An accessible and effective feedback collection mechanism via what's app, facebook, web site, phone # for text and a phone # for contact. (a small set of staff to handle them and take them to logical end). 2. Designated and exclusive drop and pick-up areas every few kms and before key places. 3. Mandate sufficient parking space before provisioning commercial-property/business (hotels, theaters, malls, etc.) approval; also implement them in the existing ones too. (to be continued).

Build a direct two lane x two lane Ring model flyover with 3 legs as listed below i. from Gandhi Park to Avinashi road Uppilipalayam junction ii. Upplilipalayam junction to Ukkadam (with up and down single lane landing in SBI road in front side of railway station) and another similar landing near Townhall Big Bazaar street (between Clock tower and Lankar Khana underpass). iii. Ukkadam back to Gandhi park again with a landing at the junction between Vysyal street & Chetty street

Contd...Have a scrap yard outside city limits with incentives to citizens who dispose off their unworthy vehicles. Make PUC compulsory with 6 months validity. Implement traffic rules strictly not like what is happening now where Commissioner of Police distributes helmets & thereafter the cops in uniform are themselves driving without helmets esp woman cops and passenger buses are carrying upto 5 feet load on rooftop.Take NCC,NSS &ExServicemen Association's help in enforcing traffic discipline.

Don’t allow entrance of Banks, hospitals/clinics to be on the main roads,avoid giving license to all such agencies so that vehicles parked like is being done now is avoided totally.Keep inter-city & inter-state bus stands outside city limits with adequate commuting facility for citizens.Make colleges & schools & big jewelers & textiles to adopt every street of Coimbatore & let Collector give away annual prizes tobest 3 institutions in maintaining various pockets of Cbe.Have scrapyard outside

Contd...Build/Allot exclusive parking areas by acquiring land from public near major shopping areas.For those finding it difficult to walk from allotted parking areas have battery operated-rickshaws like those plying in Delhi near Rlystation & metrostations.Don’t allow registration of more than one 4wheeler & one 2wheeler in a single persons name this should reduce possessing any number of vehicles by individuals.Don’t allow entrance of Banks,hospitals/clinics to be on the main roads

Contd...In all areasdevelop parks,if required govt tobuy some landfrom public &develop parks.Strictly Don’t allow residentialareas & residentialhouses/flats for commercial activities.Reduce density of vehicular traffic.Get Metro or Mono-Rail to Cbe fast.Sell vehicles,only ifbuyer canprove hehas parkingspace.Any resident ofCbe parkingin public place/common areas should be made to pay hefty AnnualTax.Makefew Roadslike Crosscutroad or one of roadsin townhall trafficfree.AllowonlyCycles&Pedestrians
