Coimbatore Corporation should ban the crackers busting, which simply adds to the noise and smoke pollution. Adequate awareness campaign should be run much ahead of the festivals to make people realize the harm effects. If we are to follow the tradition, In the ancient days when ammunition was not invented how did people celebrate deepavali, is the basis question that we all should ask ourself…

A Limit should be set on the vehicle population; older ones should be taken out promptly. Provide subsidiary for the ones willing to sell their older vehicles and lay heavy road tax if they would like to continue to use provided their are within the emission norms.

Open canals carrying waste water should be thru large pipes all the way to the designated STP’s. Canal space could be used for a much better purpose like elevated roads for light motor vehicles traffic and also will help move closer to mosquito abolishment.

Roads once laid should last the period it is built for. If not the penalty along with the repair cost should go to the contractor who laid the road. Without such stringent measures a quality road can’t be expected.

Digging up the roads for various reasons should be stopped. Proper planning should go in keeping the next 5 years in mind. Precast structure should be used to lay the cables so that those could be opened up easily for maintenance.

When a private player like Shanthi social service can provide extra ordinary service for the benefit of many. The much bigger and influential body like corporation should be able to emulate the model in other part of the city or could help the corporate companies to join hands to do so as part of their CSR.

Encroachment should be cleared and roads should be widened. Scheme roads (one a month) to be developed. Prepare ahead, announce the schedule, provide enough notice period to the affected parties, and implement it without any schedule slippage. Politicians should be made not to implement scheme that goes against the city plans. Like corporation trying to remove the encroachments whereas influenced persons provide power and water to encroached settlement and a free housing later.

Garbage pickup, road maintenance, etc… to be taken up during the night time which could reduce the traffic load on the roads. Synchronized work hours for various domains like schools and office should be implemented. Encourage the private sector companies to work additional hr during the week day and take a Friday or Monday off as compensation every other week. (instead of 8x5 + 8x5 work 9x5 + 9x4)
