Smart cities should have smart maintenance. Infrastructure should not get tampered due to maintenance. High volume tunnels on either sides of roads could be layed and used for laying electricity/telephone/Internet/Water lines (water lines could be laid at the bottom)on one side and the other side could be used for sewage alleys. There would need to be maintenance points kept at every 1 km distance with a manhole for the purpose of maintenance activities.

Coimbatore City has developed on its own with minimum support or contributions from the Government establishments for it's growth. However it has immense potential to challenge the Metros if we develop a comprehensive plan to improve the infrastructure, skilled resources, adequate investment and move strategic large and government projects to this city .

Smart city is an ever evolving concept. The needs of now might be obsolete in 5 - 10 years. We would need to create "SMART & Futuristic Institute" - Independent Non-govenmental body to do the study & analysis and report to the local, state & central governments.
The independent body should evaluate various projects' feasibility and should inform goverment and people thru social media and other communication medium

Coimbatore smart city needs to be designed strategically to serve as coordinator location in a meshed topology design. This would help out in ensuring accelerated development in satellite cities like Erode, Karur, Dindugal, Palakkad, Thirussur etc .Leveraging the natural geographical defences for the city and the manufacturing capability built-in, spatial structure needs to be arranged in string of pearls (ring network) structure providing interconnected manufacturing hubs on the outer area

1. Traffic can be avoided by proper road system. There are many small roads which are causing traffic.
2. Proper drainage system needed in many areas
3. Local train is needed to connect south and north end of coimbatore district (from udumalai to Mettupalayam) which will be useful in urbanization.

Overall priority: Establish "Smart energy grids" which will from the backbone of the Smart City,a major requirement being to leverage energy consumption between the different producers and consumers. Coimbatore must leverage its proximity to Power grids of windmill plants.
Challenge to overcome :- Lack of horizontal & vertical integration across various e-government& urban initiatives may lead to relatively low interest level by authorities & limit efforts in achieving excellence.

Government has to conduct campaigns to educate people to follow traffic rules. Most of them including pedestrians not following the Indian traffic rules. Main violations includes over taking from the left side, Blocking the free passage,Going slowly in the middle of the road or right side of the road, Pedestrians are walking in left side of the road, rushing and blocking the single line road especially by autos and taxis etc.
