Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Coimbatore are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Coimbatore a Smart one. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics

1. What should be the Vision of the Coimbatore
2. Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors

a. City Spatial Structure, Transportation and Green Spaces
b. Energy, Water, Waste Water and Environment
c. Housing, Health, Education, Security, Law and Order
d. Citizen Engagement, Smart Solutions and IT-led service delivery

# Improve Water facility by linking of Siruvani and Athikadavu to all areas in and around Coimbatore #Improve water table by implementing Rainwater harvesting structures to be made mandatory for all houses and structures above a specified Sq.ft. of land owned. # A separate smart panel to be formed for land acquisition and speedy resolution to land issues. # Widen roads removing encroachments, implementing outer ring road. # Expediting Construction of bridges at key points, railway crossing.

How can we forget about our zoo ?? well..we did forget about it and its maintenance...our zoo needs an upgrade immediately .

I request my fellow citizens to have a look at other cities competing to become a smart city...as this is play of numbers and our government is to look at number of posts submitted here..please submit each one of your valuable points as one post each.

I think we should also focus on the heritage of #coimbatore ..steps should be taken to preserve old buildings, temples etc... remember our GASS museum ?? that needs to be upgraded with state of the art tech stuff.

Play on your strengths!, Coimbatore is Hub of higher studies, Medical facilities, Precision engineering and Textile Industries. A holistic approach to have "Greater Kovai" by including nearby towns in urban planing, sub-cities with intl std of living, Implement metro train for commuting and big roads and service lanes. World class institutions and so on.. CBE hosts multi culture society of India but grumbling under unplanned growth. Greater Kovai - Smart way to go for Smart City !.

Need to ban plastic bags i hope that will be smarter way of keeping the city clean and provide healthier environment for people in Smart city

Besides an increase in vehicle population, the busy Coimbatore to Pollachi road has become more prone to fatal accidents mainly due to speeding buses. Road way from coimbatore to pollachi is not in good condition. Four way road can help to avoid accedents. It will be the better solution.
