Dear All I live in a medium sized town in Sweden. I want to share amazing cooperation between residents in local communities that I have experienced here over the last 20 years. Every year in each of our small areas people organize "spring" and "autumn" cleanup days organised by volunteers from the area. Every man, woman and child comes out and clean their area. In the afternoon we organize snacks. A wonderful way to develop a community awareness.

In Dubai Municipal workers, clear up ensure smaller waste which are not deposited in dustbins. Also the Waste collection vehicles ply every night after 10.00 PM and Municipality works in the night to keep the city clean. Also each building is insisted to have their own dust bin and the waste from each building / house is collected by the Municipal vehicle every night. Thus very effective waste collection is ensured ably supported by scientific Waste Management .

I live in Dubai and I am sharing a website for the waste management here "http://www.dulsco.com/wastemanagementservices" . When I saw into the waste management issue in india we have to manage it from the house hold level . Secondly we have to categorize the type of the waste like household waste or medical waste . all government NGO's should collect the waste from the locality assigned to him and dispose it to a central site .Then the dumper should collect from there.

Apart from cleanliness in outside areas, another area of concern is the quality of air within the houses. It is a medically proven fact that the rooms we live in are more polluted than outside areas, by 33 times. This is due to decreased quality of air, reduced air ventilation and bacteria, fungi and mold increase in humid areas within home. Thus this Cleanliness is not limited to outside the home people live in, it actually starts from the home itself.

Cleaning in outside areas like roads, parks, pathways can be achieved only via educating people. Since this is a situation created by us humans, only we have to be dedicated together to make it happen. Government role here is to educate people apart from most important role of providing infrastructure for people to discard the waste properly. Use of markings and designated areas is important for efficient waster management. Municipal Corporations must audit the quality of services they provide.

In last 30-40years, millions of tonnes of plastic entered oceans. Global plastic production stands at 288 mil tons/year, 10% of it ends up in oceans. 80% of that comes from land-based sources. Litter gets swept into drains, ends up in rivers, all end up in the sea. Boyan Slat is a 20-year-old teenager on a mission, to rid 'floating plastics' from world's oceans & to recycle. Below link shows his innovative idea http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-29631332

I will refer you to a nonprofit organization Eco-cycle, website www.ecocycle.org, they are pioneers in waste management & recycling and assists with zero-waste events/communities, based in Boulder County, Colorado (U.S.A.). Eco-cycle is now offering their services Internationally. They have expertise and offer trainings. They have shared excellent guides, newsletters & videos in their website. If GOI plans to engage with them , I'll be happy to assist as a local contact in Boulder, CO.
