Promoting Research and Innovation

The progress of the nation depends on its sustained growth of education and research in science and technology. To meet the objective, our research should bear international comparison in terms of standards of attainment. A major weakness of Indian education and research is the relatively very small part played by the universities in the sum total of Indian research. The government can take several steps to encourage research and innovations in the universities. Promotion of research in liberal arts and social sciences, including inter-disciplinary research is significant too. The government needs to increase its allocations for Rand D activities. At the institutional level, there is a need to link teaching with research. The government needs to invest in faculty development and provide incentives for research, promote collaborative efforts between institutions in research.

• In what ways, aptitude for research and innovation should be developed in students and faculty members?
• What measures are needed to develop research capabilities of teachers and students?
• In what ways, research agenda should be prioritized at the higher education level?
• How private agencies can be encouraged and motivated to invest funds in university research and innovation activities?
• Which of the following strategies need to be pursued for promoting research & innovation

Outcome based research financing.
Liberal research grants for both social sciences and basic sciences.
Setting up Incubation Centers with Seed Money to do innovative research
Research leading to creation of intellectual property.
Setting up Research Parks in central educational institutions.
Joint appointments of faculty – enabling researchers to teach and teachers to engage in research.
Inter-disciplinary research – Institutions must come together for creating new knowledge at the intersections of existing disciplines.

• How can we make India become a favoured destination for R&D projects. How can we explore getting grants from abroad for R&D?

Publishing papers, is required definitely, many scientists would argue with that. But, if this domain could be made available to researchers in India only, then, scientists could work in a more cooperative manner and the work be patented in the name of the country and not a single individual.

Also, many independent groups are found working on the same project. So, once a paper has been published by one group, the whole work and money invested in the work done by other groups is wastage. My question here is, that the motive of all the researchers is the same, so instead of being competitors, if they could work in collaboration with each other, the information obtained from them would be highly verified and trustworthy.

Sir, I am student of biotechnology about to end my postgraduation and have been a part of research in few projects. There were certain things I noticed, during my work which I would like to express here. I have seen a competition among scientists to publish papers regarding their work,so their work is released into open domains and hence the chances of it being commercialized and marketed by our country is highly reduced.

some students came to non merit because they was more working in practical and practical is the base of research so it is necessary to give the permission to such type working person in other place to develop his research without his qualification with a name of research by uneducated , it make a competition of research .

Sir, There are so many person want to work on research but they are not bearer a certificate so they are missing and lost his/her ideas in the forest of developments, that,s why i think make so many places for research purpose where certificates are not necessary it,s just like our ancient time or vaidic yuga only practice and find .

Consider the talent and interest of a person but not his mark. Marks do not show the attitudes of a person.Choose the best or choose a person with interest and spirit to develop INDIA.

Innovators and degree holders (Ph.D.) are two different communities. We have to develop systems of supporting innovators who may or may not be qualified degree holders. Existing system is hopeless, we call Ph.D. holders scientist, who does not have any scientific flavor. All govt. R & D funds are digested by IITs, NITs, Govt. R & D labs which ends up in research papers and Ph.D. thesis. There is no accountability either. We need to completely overhaul the system. I can help a lot.
