The Fit India Movement was launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on 29 August 2019 with the vision of ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ and the message ‘Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz’, to make fitness an integral part of everyday life. Over the years, the Movement has expanded its public outreach through flagship campaigns such as National Sports Day, Fit India Carnival, and Sundays on Cycle.

The Fit India School Certification Program is an initiative under the Fit India Movement, launched with the objective of making physical fitness an essential and everyday part of school life rather than an occasional or event-based activity. The program derives its statutory basis from the Gazette Notification and Operational Guidelines of the revised Khelo India Scheme (KIS), which formally provides for a school-level fitness certification mechanism.

This concept note presents the proposed new design of the Fit India School Certification Programme and invites inputs and suggestions from schools, teachers, parents, education administrators, sports bodies, and other stakeholders. The Programme seeks to build a strong, continuing relationship between Fit India and schools by promoting fitness among students, teachers, and staff. It recognises schools that provide regular physical activity and sports opportunities and gives parents a transparent, reliable reference for making informed school choices.

The underlying policy premise is that the school is the first formal institution after home where fitness habits can be systematically taught, practiced, and reinforced in a child's life.

I think the main hindrance of the initiative had been the execution, just like many other great initiatives by the government. So, adding value via certification will surely create some buzz. Furthermore, Students tends to much more obedient at school than that of their residence. Naturally, no better place could be their to start the initiative, and it should be kept mandatory for all schools, irrespective of boards, government or Private. But again, the most important part will be the execution of this particular initiative as well which tends to get diluted at ground level. Strong vigilance and follow up, similar to private jobs, is required and ruthless actions should be taken if not taken up seriously.

“Fit India should not only certify a fit school; it should help create a generation that chooses fitness as a way of life.” The Fit India School Certification Programme is an excellent initiative because schools are the best place to develop lifelong habits. I would like to suggest a few improvements: 1. Fitness beyond marks and certificates 🏃‍♀️ Certification should focus on students’ regular participation and improvement, not only on facilities or one-time fitness tests. 2. “30 Minutes Every Day” ⏱️ Every school could have a fixed daily fitness period involving sports, yoga, walking, stretching, or age-appropriate exercises. 3. Fitness for EVERY student 🤝 Activities should include girls, students with disabilities, beginners and students who are not interested in competitive sports. Nobody should feel left out. 4. Student Fitness Leaders 🌟 Schools could create a small group of trained “Fit India Student Leader"

Subject: Feedback & Suggestions on the Revised Fit India School Certification Concept Paper Respected Team, I appreciate the Ministry's initiative to revamp the Fit India School Certification Program under Khelo India. Here are key suggestions to strengthen its implementation: 1. Digital Tracking & Dashboard: Introduce a transparent, real-time portal for schools to upload sports infrastructure and daily fitness activity logs easily. 2. Mandatory PE & Micro-Fitness Breaks: Mandate 45 minutes of daily PE along with 5-minute indoor fitness breaks between academic sessions to build consistent habits. 3. Student Fitness Report Card: Integrate a biannual Physical Fitness Index (BMI, endurance, mobility) alongside academic report cards. 4. Community & Parent Involvement: Encourage weekend community sports events (e.g., Fit India Family Walks) to extend fitness beyond school premises. Submitted by: Girish Deshmukh

The Fit India Certification Concept Paper presents a positive and practical approach towards promoting fitness, healthy lifestyles, and physical well-being among citizens. The certification framework can encourage individuals, schools, workplaces, and institutions to adopt regular physical activity and healthier habits. It would be beneficial to include simple and measurable fitness criteria, age-appropriate standards, awareness programmes, and regular monitoring to ensure that the certification remains accessible and meaningful. The concept could also place greater emphasis on inclusivity so that people with different physical abilities and backgrounds can participate. Overall, the initiative has strong potential to create a healthier, more active, and fitness-conscious India.

On the basis of today's lifestyle of our youth generation..it is very necessary to stay fit and healthy physically and mentally. It is a very praising work of our government that initiated their steps towards the health and mental stability of youth..This step will also give some hope to those children and people who are interested in sports and other activities like running, weight lifting and other physical activities. This will help our future generations to connect with nature and thier environment instead of mobile phone addiction..
