The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP. For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure a higher percentage in the GDP.

Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

mining sector is the sector where the skilled people should work but it is seen that most of the untrained people work in this field. govt should make it compulsory for the mining owner companies to train their people before sending to the job. govt should aske for certification program, which will be issued by few institutes which will be nominated authorized institute for training.

From the MP laud fund and MLA laud fund, all schools/colleges/ITI/ Engineering colleges should be linked by net working, work force should be identified and made easily available for industries to pick up them, irrespective of caste or creed, keeping only the qualification in mind. For drop outs, jail convicts and others, there should be some skill based training centres, and certification programmes in various skills like plumbing, electrician, gardener, etc.
