Muzaffarpur is one of the largest commercial and educational center in North Bihar. It is famous for litchis which is a fruit famous fruit.

Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. Our city “MUZAFFARPUR” ranks 94th with 42 mark in the first round of the Smart city Selection process.

The Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation is currently working on upgrading its proposals for Round 2 of the Smart City Mission. One of the key processes of the Mission is to engage with the citizens at every stage in order to prioritize the areas for intervention. The Municipal Corporation Muzaffarpur are requested Muzaffarpur’s Citizen to examine the earlier proposals in detail and identify The gaps in the light of the Guidelines / Generic gaps issued by the MOUD and post their remarks/feedback on the discussion thread. The citizen engagement would lead to a meaningful envisioning exercise and identify the priority areas of physical, social; economic and institutional infrastructure.

To update our proposal in order to achieve the benchmark set by the MoUD and the winning cities, Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation Appeal the Citizens to engage and provide their suggestions in formulation of the Smart City Proposal for our city Muzaffarpur.

The Smart City proposal submitted to MoUD can be accessed through the mentioned link below. Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation aims to engage citizens for comments and suggestions so that we can be incorporated to formulate a winning proposal.

The litchi crop, which is available from May to June, is mainly cultivated in the districts of Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts, in an area of about 25,800 hectare producing about 300,000 tonnes every year. Lychee is exported to big cities like Bombay, Kolkata and to other countries. India's share in the world litchi market amounts to less than 1%. The names of the litchi produced in Muzaffarpur are Shahi and China. The fruits are known for excellent aroma and quality.

Bihar has emerged as brewery hub with major domestic and foreign firms setting up production units in the state. Vijay Mallya group- United Breweries Group, is setting up a production unit to make litchi-flavoured wine, in Muzaffarpur in 2012. The company has leased litchi gardens.
