Shimla - a small hill city with huge tourist footfalls - aspires to become a world-class tourist destination. To achieve this, the city must deal with its infrastructural challenges like solving its water scarcity, tackle its vehicular congestion problem and most importantly make its dilapidating buildings safe and continue attracting more tourists. Instead of following the conventional short-term problem-specific piecemeal approach – the city plans to use the Smart City Challenge to propose a large-scale urban redevelopment, water-resilience and mobility-improvement program.

The Smart city plan envisions Shimla to be “Resilient Global Tourism Destination” that anchors itself on its cultural, historic & natural assets, while ensuring a livable, inclusive, sustainable & flexible environment for improved quality of life of its citizens.

The key strategic directional propositions that have guided the city to set its vision & goals on basis on detail city profiling & citizen engagement are as follows:

1. Improve city’s resilience index across all four dimensions i.e. Health & wellbeing, Economy & society, Infrastructure & environment and Leadership & strategy.
2. Anchor and restore the city’s historic & natural assets.
3. Leverage city’s strength & weakness to create assets & opportunities.

We have finalized and submitted Shimla-Smart city proposal for this round and uploading the same for public discussions/comments.

Basic requirement :- water & electricity.
Traffic :- shifting of bus stand to Dhalli from lakker bazar . widening of roads. separate office time for shimla and new shimla / vikasnager/ kasumpti . construction of small parking in every ward. clear of roads from debris .
Garbage collection and disposal :- it should be design for long term perspective. not as done in kanlog bypass road, which are sheer wastage of tax payer's money and time.
Tourism :- utilizing land form developing parks

First things first, make every road one way and laws are implemented strictly. Police do their duty and then clean up the city. Install stop signs , traffic lights and CCDs. These are all can be achieved easily. Then start building the City wider roads, free WIFI, demolish all the illegal buildings, improve the train station to world class. New paint for all the official buildings and then computerize all the government offices.

First step should be taken that traffic which not required to enter shimla city, not to come in the city, broad bypass is required. Second step must be taken to decrease the burden and to minimize the pollution in this beautiful city that to stop the new registry of land, houses, flats etc immediately. regards

Sir There should be a rule in SWACHH BHARAT MISSION that every commercial building/shops must have a DUSTBIN at outside.
Although It is a small initiative but it will make a great change.

Hope this reaches2Government.The IT need to innovate a lot here.#arts&culture "we must take steps to promote and patent our Yoga practices&spiritual meditation methods and teachings&astrology.TKDL is poorly maintained&most of links do not open,no option to write them email.Youtube is filled with videos&channels by foreigners but rarely Indians, fear there would be an attempt to patent and world mindset to forget it was gift from Vedic Science.Efforts needed from ministry of culture to save it.

according to me wifi system should be there. if wifi system is enabled it would be a great help to the students for their better education and also to the local people.
many tourists will be able to take this facility and use google maps for directions as this is a place which attracts tourists.
