Bengaluru (erstwhile Bangalore), the capital of Karnataka, has a history of over four hundred years, having been founded by Magadi Kempegowda in the year 1537 AD. With its strategic location as well as congenial climate, fertile land & adequate rainfall has grown steadily in its area.

The history of municipal governance of Bangalore dates back to 1862, when nine leading citizens of the city formed a Municipal Board under the Improvement of Towns Act of 1850. Later, a similar Municipal Board was also formed in the Cantonment area of the city. The two boards were legalised in 1881, and functioned as two independent bodies called the Bangalore City Municipality and the Bangalore Civil and Military Station Municipality.

Post-Independence, the two Municipal Boards were merged to form the Corporation of the City of Bangalore in 1949. In January 2007, the Karnataka Government issued a notification to merge 100 wards of the erstwhile Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) with seven City Municipal Council (CMCs’), one Town Municipal Council (CMC) and 111 villages around the city to form a single administrative area and the body was renamed 'Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike' (BBMP) in 2007.

Would like to nominate Ward #82 (Garudacharpalya) for the Smart City initiative. It's a diverse ward with people from all over the world, companies from different verticals and a community that's at the forefront when it comes to transforming civic life.

Ward 82 (Garudacharapalya) should have been the gateway to probably the largest IT hub in India, generating several billion dollars every year and tens of thousands of employment. However, due to the acute infrastructure woes, it has now become the bottleneck for the realization of the full potential of the city. Let us make Ward 82 as the Smart City to catalyze the economic growth of the whole east Bengaluru.

Marathahalli Ward - 86 has to develop a lot as it's been in the heart of the city. Also, it needs more Infrastructure like Sky Walks, Flyovers to avoid traffic situations. Please do consider as Smart Ward as Marathahalli.

Being the IT hub of India, an IT solution to Real Estate issues (e-governance) will benefit a multitude of people. I have identified two areas where an IT solution can be a panacea - Building an efficient price discovery mechanism and having a single data repository which can act as a source of truth. The attached document has more details on this.
