Bengaluru (erstwhile Bangalore), the capital of Karnataka, has a history of over four hundred years, having been founded by Magadi Kempegowda in the year 1537 AD. With its strategic location as well as congenial climate, fertile land & adequate rainfall has grown steadily in its area.

The history of municipal governance of Bangalore dates back to 1862, when nine leading citizens of the city formed a Municipal Board under the Improvement of Towns Act of 1850. Later, a similar Municipal Board was also formed in the Cantonment area of the city. The two boards were legalised in 1881, and functioned as two independent bodies called the Bangalore City Municipality and the Bangalore Civil and Military Station Municipality.

Post-Independence, the two Municipal Boards were merged to form the Corporation of the City of Bangalore in 1949. In January 2007, the Karnataka Government issued a notification to merge 100 wards of the erstwhile Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) with seven City Municipal Council (CMCs’), one Town Municipal Council (CMC) and 111 villages around the city to form a single administrative area and the body was renamed 'Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike' (BBMP) in 2007.

Please select Ward 82 Garudacharpalya for Smart City project. The numerous industrial and residential communities residing will benefit from the change that is very much required for Bengaluru. We need it for sustaining the growth . #SmartCity, #NammaBengaluru, #MyGov

Integrated public transport infrastructure (suburban rail, metro, BMTC) that takes into account the current and growing population needs, energy requirements for both commercial and residential zones, access to clean drinking water, comprehensive solution to tackle the solid waste generated on a daily basis, air pollution, traffic management are some areas that should come under the ambit of the #SmartCity proposal. Dear Friends, Bengaluru is already smart with its cosmopolitan culture, presence of every global leader in IT domain and India's top technology companies like HAL, BEL, BEML, Biocon etc. To make it the place for better and sustainable living, we need employ technology in most of our day to day activities and government services. Can you list top 5 issues that require technological intervention to make Bengalureans life better manageable at affordable cost and in less time?

Traffic regulation and congestion reduction will go a long way in reducing pollution, reducing energy requirement and improving productivity. Ward 82 (Garudacharpalya) has a good blend of interested official and active citizens to showcase the concepts of a smart Namma Bengaluru.
