Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, in Karnataka State has been selected by the Ministry of Urban Development as one of the 100 smart cities to participate in the “Smart City” Challenge Stage-2 by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation was constituted in the year 1962 by combining two cities separated by a distance of 20 kilometers. This was a unique experiment in urban development history. Under the Government of India Act of 1850, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal council was established on August 15, 1855.

Let’s join together to make Hubballi-Dharwad as a Smart City.

1) The infrastructure works need to be speed up. These works should be taken up on priority basis. 2) The alternative sources of energy are encouraged and made compusory at individual level but the same is not seen at government offices. 3) The government owns lot of land in Dharwad at many important junctions and it is lying vacant. This makes the city look deserted and without the hustle bustle of any public life. All such places must be developed.

I extend my Hearty Thanks to the Central Government for considering Namma HUBBALLI DHARWAD as a Smart City. In my view smart city should have the following: 1.Only well planned layouts in future should get the sanctions for development. 2.Construct the outer ring road for better connectivity. 3.The earlier allotted Industries, Timberyards, wholesalers, etc are to moved out of the city in order to avoid congestion of traffic. 4.Maintain all the other basic amenities like road, water, light.

(1) Cleanliness in the city (2) Fine for not following traffic rules and Speeding, Cameras all over the city (3) Smart disposal of Garbage all over the city (Recyclable waste should be separated from organic) (4) Solar panels on the houses for use which can send excess of electricity back to Hescom(Gov can provide subsidy for the ones who adopt it) (5) Road maintenance (6) solar street lamps (7) Public toilets pay and use (people should be fined for urinating elsewhere)

As we know Hubbali & Dharwad is fast growing city, smart city project will take to HD to next level but public should maintain cleanness & discipline for i would suggest dustbin on all roadside for every 200 meter...

A city can be smart when its people get smarter, what I mean, 1. let every one first understand what actually SMART CITIES are meant for, Authorities should first enlighten its citizens on this and let know how one can be benefited by it. 2. SMART CITY means huge fund flow, the accountability of which should be transparent. 3. Streets are the primary indicators of how smart a city is, hope this never ending issue is solved. 4. Proper waste Management process be implemented.
