Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, in Karnataka State has been selected by the Ministry of Urban Development as one of the 100 smart cities to participate in the “Smart City” Challenge Stage-2 by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation was constituted in the year 1962 by combining two cities separated by a distance of 20 kilometers. This was a unique experiment in urban development history. The area of this Corporation is 202.3sq.kms, spread over 45 revenue villages. The population of the city as per the 1991 Census was 7 lakhs. The present population is nearly more than 9.43 lakhs. Under the Government of India Act of 1850, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal council was established on August 15, 1855.

Hubli is business hub in North Karnataka and Dharwad is educational centre. So there is need of improving the infrastructure of city. So that people are more attracted towards the city. Hubli-Dharwad is more suitable for smart city as it's fast growing city and people are developing their way of living. It may increase the employment of local people and mechanical n IT industries must be given importance.

Positive mentality of the people plays an important role in making smart city, then comes the following parameters. 1.Smart public transport system 2.Footpaths should be made 3.Dustbins should be kept every 500m, which will be targeted to swachh bharath abhiyan to keep the city clean. 4.Smart parking facility 5.CCTV should be placed in mall, parking lots, streets. 6.Free WiFi. 7.Make use of solar energy. 8.Street lights of LED's so that there will be minimum consumption of electricity.

Make d city smart by smart decisions incerease employment rate..!! Develop industrial sector ..!! Have clean nd hygenic water supply..!! Roads nd drainages to b maintained !!?

Increase the employment rate by waste and plastic management ventures, street cows and dog management ventures. Enabling software based data tracking and monitoring in every small and medium sized outlets and market. Establish wifi zones in every building and street. Establishment of outlets that encourage entrepreneurs and new innovative ideas to solve problems. Spreading awareness of the Internet and technology to every village and every nook and corner of the cities.

1.Plantation of more number of trees between hubli and dharwad. 2.Transportation facility for disabled. 3.Waste management 4.Rainwater harvesting for conservation of water. 5.solarpanel should be installed 6. Public toilet should be proposed. 7.Disposal of garbage-biodegradable and nonbiodegradable should be separate.

Fly overs are to be constructed at Hosur, Amendkar circle, Near Bankapur Chowk on NH4, Near Indi pump at Old Hubli, Unkal, Navanagar.From JSS College to Jubilee circle. Fly overs will not only ease the traffic and protect already existing telecomm cables, UGD system and water pipes.
