The things expected in our city to make it smarter are:
1 The quality of roads have to be improved.
2 There are pigs everywhere in the city. This issue need to be considered seriously.
3 Metro railwayas facility have to be done to manage the traffic effectively.
4 waste management should be done outside the city.
5 Still many medical colleges and hospitals have to come up in the city.

Hubballi-Dharwad smart city should use a consistent and beautiful font (like Open Sans or Gill Sans in English, others for Kannada/Devanagari) for all signage. (If possible, consistent color also). Or get a professional designer to design our own custom fonts in all 3 languages. Currently, the ugly “HUBBALLI AIRPORT” sign in a loud blue color screams of the 1970s! Beautiful signage convinces companies that the local authorities are meticulous and pay attention to detail and breeds trust.

This has been said often, but is worth emphasizing: All new apartments and houses in Hubballi-Dharwad smart city must be required to have rain water harvesting and solar panels on the rooftop. A whistleblower hotline must be set up for any observed violations (whether in letter or in spirit) of this policy!

Start a Hubballi-Dharwad Sunday morning walk (like London walks, Bangalore walks or Pune walks). Alternate weeks in Hubballi and Dharwad. Imagine taking a beautiful stroll through some historic and pristine areas of Hubballi and Dharwad, guided by a knowledge and energetic guide, perhaps even a student or artist who has grown up in the region. We have beautiful trees and lovely birds. Polish off the walk with a sumptuous Uttar Karnataka breakfast of avlakki, uppit and coffee!

We have to ensure that all citizens of Hubballi-Dharwad smart city are maximally engaged in civic affairs. We must convince schools to make it mandatory for all students to have filed at least 1 HDMC complaint (and if possible an RTI application also!) before they complete 10th standard. This is a lesson in basic civics!

Hubballi-Dharwad smart city citizens need to be smart first! We need to give citizens lessons in basic civisA citizen’s handbook should be created that is user-friendly and easy to read. It will explain how the city works, what the responsibilities and powers of the HDMC are, what is the organizational hierarchy, escalation matrix, etc. Think of the handbook that is given out to students entering a new college. We should have a handbook like this to give to new citizens entering the city!
