Being one of the oldest and largest cities in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad is also developed and commercialized city. Being the first city to be on the main route on the way to Uttar Pradesh from our national capital i.e. New Delhi, It is often referred as the "Gateway of UP". One of the most well planned cities in terms of industrialization in the state, the city of Ghaziabad is the administrative headquarters for Ghaziabad District.

With a population of close to 47 Lacs as per the 2011 survey, the Ghaziabad District represents the 2.33% of the overall people living in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The literacy rate of Ghaziabad is as high as 91% witch marks the city to be referred as the "Oxford of the North". There has been a growth of close to 47% in the population since the census of 2001 and that is primarily due to all the industrialization in the and people moving in from various parts of the country.

Being a part of the ever so happening NCR in northern India, it has picked up its speed and style when is comes to lifestyle and day to day living. With all the corporate coming into the city, the educated workforce of the city has witnessed a rise of the per capita income in turn helping them for the betterment of their lifestyle. The city of Ghaziabad is into the urban culture of fashion, beauty parlors, gymnasium on a regular basis in order to stay fit amongst various other lifestyle choices. Ghaziabad also has some prominent malls which brings people even from Delhi to shop in those malls. Ghaziabad is wall connected with the NCR by means of public transport like buses, autos and metro rail. The nearest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
Due to all the industrialization and commercial growth, the city of Ghaziabad has appealed people from various parts of the nation for employment option hence making it a thorough cosmopolitan city. The generic language spoken in the city is Hindi. Primarily known as a manufacturing city. Ghaziabad had its major growth in terms of business and economy due to the same. later on, due the development of infrastructure and educational facilities, a lot of enhancement was seen in other sector like IT, Oil, Gas, Textile and heavy machinery amongst others.

Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation is preparing the Smart City Proposal with plan to provide smart solutions to the city and welcomes the citizens of Ghaziabad to post their views, opinions, thoughts and plans on smart solutions for their needs related to water supply, sanitation, solid waste management, storm water drainage, waste water management, affordable housing, energy efficiency, use of renewable and solar energy, non-motorized transport, underground electric cabling, open space development, safety, healthcare, education, culture and heritage, public transport, key infrastructure such as pedestrian walkways, cycle tracks, roads, underpasses, Fly overs, services such as e-governance tools etc.

Inputs from citizens is important for framing a vision for Ghaziabad and to get selected as one among the top 20 cities in the first year, in the Smart City Challenge round.

New Citizens' Council, Ghaziabad is a non-political registered body patronized by prominent citizens of Ghaziabad. Members of the Council have been engaging themselves in the activities of citizenship services. Council is also engaged in the field of Environmental awareness. We have also to make the following suggestions to improve Traffic / Environment of the Town for your kind consideration:

F. HOSPITALS: F1 Use of generic medicines for poor patients (like Rajasthan) should be introduced. State Government should introduce their Medicine Shops outside Civil Hospitals for selling generic medicines. Doctors in the Civil Hospitals should be advised to prescribe generic medicines also. F2 Medicine Banks for unused medicines should be created by all private / Civil Hospitals. Experts can help to segregate and distribute it to poor patients.

E3 There is scarcity of admission to the student in Graduate / Post Graduate Colleges both for boys and girls. Since college premises are available, colleges should work in two shifts. Retired staff and teachers can be utilized for the purpose in evening shifts. E4 To cultivate more values in students, eminent persons should be invited for lectures. Poster should be displayed. Help of social organizations can be sought for the purpose.

E. EDUCATION: E1 At least up to primary school, Saturday should be off. It would add health to the students as well as save pollution of transportation. E2 During dense cold and fog season, school timings should start at 9 A.M. Since schools do no work second shift, there should be no hitch for the teachers. Tuition work after school hours shall also thus discouraged.

D4 During Navratras, some time back Nagar Nigam Introduced rickshaws to pick up sacred earth and then dispose off appropriately. This gesture is only required twice a year for two days only. It shall help to reduce pollution in nearby Hindon / Yamuna.

D3 Public Toilets (Sulabh Souchalaya) should be added in the town particularly at busy market places. Use of Polythene Bags should be discouraged. Retailers should display request at their shops so that buyers come handy with their cloth / jute bags. Malls in the town sell Polythene Bags which should be discouraged. Use of Polythene is prohibited in the State of Himachal Pradesh.

D2 Garbage disposal scheme should be implemented and consultant company; M/s DORCH CONSULTANT INDIA P. LTD., should be given specific job of Garbage disposal. Some of Nagar Nigams produce energy out of same and recycle it. Details should be explored.

D. HYGIENE & CLEANLINESS: D1 Earlier both colonies like Raj Nagar / Kavi Nagar Shastri Nagar had vacant plots where such Dust Bins were kept by Nagar Nigam and periodically these Dust Bins were cleared by Nagar Nigam Trucks. Steadily vacant plots are narrowing down which is creating problem as to where the local residents throw their garbage. Local Rickshaws are now operating which pick up garbage. The Schemes should be implemented with sincerity.

C8 Clubs in all sectors with voluntary help of resident should be created for which land should be allotted by GDA / Nagar Nigam to RWAs. As on date there is no appropriate place though Ghaziabad is a District. Seniors / (Kids) can add to their health by outdoor / indoor games in these clubs. Funds of the Club can be marked by the RWA members with no burden on State as is happening in Noida in each sector.

C7 Dry leaves in the parks should be picked up, dumped and used as manure. Local gardeners should be discouraged to burn the same. Nagar Nigam vehicles rarely come to pick up garbage. Nagar Nigam vehicles should also be deputed to pick up dry leaves from the parks.
