India has a rich legacy of practices and knowledge touching different spheres of life and a scientific heritage traversing various Science & Technology (S&T) domains. The traditional knowledge of India is available in various forms such as classical texts, manuscripts and/or as oral communication that has been passed on over thousands of years. This valuable knowledge is often part of our daily practices as well. Some of the traditional practices are livelihood means of the concerned knowledge holders. Our traditional practices exist in synergy between human needs and nature, often balancing resources and requirements in a local context. However, with time, India’s Traditional Knowledge Systems are eroding rapidly, and the nation has also been witnessing erosion in people’s faith towards our traditional knowledge. A grave concern is the mindless attitude of some to mimic non-Indian cultures and disdain for our traditions. It’s important to recognize that traditional heritage is an integral part of any country’s development and progression. This calls for necessary attention and action from the concerned stakeholders in the country to build further on our scientific inheritance. Only a well-informed and balanced society can drive the advancement of the country.

Under the visionary leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister and President, CSIR Society, Shri Narendra Modi, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is spearheading the efforts to collaborate with the relevant partners from across the country and implement the national initiative SVASTIK (Scientifically Validated Societal Traditional Knowledge) for communicating India’s traditional knowledge to the society. CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) is the nodal organization to implement this national initiative.

The prime mission of the initiative is to conserve scientifically validated traditional practices, and instil confidence in citizens regarding the scientific values of our traditional knowledge/practices.

We invite the suggestions of academicians, researchers, subject-matter experts, students, NGOs, and the public on how to instil confidence in society about our traditional knowledge and practices. This will help us in our mission to inculcate a scientific temper and instil confidence in citizens by stimulating the Science-Scientist-Society connect towards our traditional knowledge and practices.

In tamilnadu there is a practice of applying gingeley oil on head once in a week before taking full bath. This is because it will take away our body heat. It will relieve us from many body complications. This practice is done by our grandparents, parents and now i am doing it. This is passed across generations as it is doing wonder.

Modiji, India's different states have different tradition, but we can see lord shiva worship from north tip of kashmir to south tip of kanyakumari and from west tip of gujarat to east tip of bengal. But to our suprise the kailas where lord shiva reside is in kangrinboqe peak in tibet of china so that the Pilgrims has to take permission of china for shiva worship. From which year was kailas to be the residence of Lord Shiva then from that year owards we should establish kailas is part of India

School education material: I remember seeing a lot of our Indian boards school study material (I'm talking about the material 15 years back, pls forgive of this no longer holds true), aimed to mind wash children right at a tender age that the Indian traditional practices are all baseless and superstitious. Which made them to not only to have no respect about these, but even discourage parents etc to have any faith in traditional practices. I believe the study material should be updated to appraise and develop a mind set to try and understand the logic behind a tradition, teach traditional practices which have already been scientifically proven; and encourage trying to discover logic behind the ones they don't know instead of laughing them off as stupid or superstitious. This goes a long way in ensuring the next generation has the right mindset; and appreciating traditions doesn't mean one's seen as illiterate.

The central government should start a separate organization for starting industries with traditional technologies. All the technology of our traditional industries are properties of India. A separate organization is needed to recognize, understand and encourage them. Our Indian heritage excels in all fields from architecture to shipbuilding. The reason why the Cholas' ships were so strong was due to the technique of carefully selecting the wood.A national board should be set up to protect traditional industries. In our traditional architecture, the use of sand and cement was less.Measurements were in the Indian system from market to house. In traditional architecture, ship art, medicine, etc., the measurements specific to our country were mostly used. The government should try to preserve the traditional scales as much as it tries to develop modern scales.Special training centers and educational programs are needed to develop traditional skills.Exhibitions and competitions should be held.

Most religious controversies happen due to ignorance of the religion. I suggest the government circulate short 30 second videos prepared by learned scholars from each religion explaining why they do what they do. In the 75 years Amrit Mahotsav, dedicate a week on “know your religions”. If every TV channel is asked to air this as part of CSR communication on prime time during their news breaks, in a week the entire nation will know how to respect each other’s religion. It can be a program called “Anektha mai Ektha”.

hello sir i discovered siditale veeragallu, a herostone of rastrakuta period The herostone has four lines written in Halegannada or Old Kannada. that some people would kill themselves as part. of a tradition in ancient Karnataka. Such death would be known as self sacrifice or leaving their body Apart from sacrificing their lives for God, some people would sacrifice their lives for the person they would like the most. The way of death varied from falling from a pole or asking someone to kill them. In 'Siditale' tradition, the person would sit in meditation posture and his head is chopped off by another person. The 'Siditale' herostone which has been discovered now describes how a man's head is being chopped off while the king and other people watches amidst ceremonial band being played in the background. The stone also describes how angels took the person to heaven on a grand manner. The herostone dates back to 9th or 10th century
