Examination reforms that focus on problem-solving, critical thinking and reasoning skills are critical to improving quality at the secondary level. Such reforms will change the teaching–learning processes and improve learning outcomes. In recent years, CBSE has introduced wide-ranging examination reforms in schools affiliated to it, such as Class X Board Examination has been made optional, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) has been strengthened so that the students, are assessed on an ongoing basis for their holistic development, a system of grading in place of marks has been introduced. The objectives are to look at the existing systems and suggest reforms which would help better assessment of students.

Examination system can't be improved untill centralized system for exams like ICAI, ICSI etc will not applied. If cant install centralized system u cant stop problems in paper leak , cheating like UP, Bihar & other state happen in mostly exam. To apply centralized examination we have centralized course.

CCE promotes good marks thru Rote learning. FA Project works are mostly given as Home work , which Parents endup doing. Even though HOTS is part of CCE but Schools are not folloing it. Exam quetions are directly taken from books hence most of children get high marks. What we want is full coverage of course in the final exam and 15% question be HOTS category. This will help Aceademically bright students. B Rgds, Bhanu

The New Education Policy should be flexible to a Bachelor's degree of three years or more, but should make it clear that atleast 15 years of school education under 11+1+3 or 10+2+3 must have been completed by a student for admission into into a Post Graduate course. Private Universities should have the option to decide whether they wish to offer 3 years or 4 years Bachelors degree, and it should be left on the students to choose.

The New Education Policy should be flexible to accomodate 11+1+3 or 10+2+3 years/ system of education before a student is admitted into a PG course. Similarly, it should allow schools to align with diplomas accepted/ recognised by Canada, USA, Singapore or U.K. for students who wish to pursue under-graduate studies abroad. The Boards- CBSE, ICSE or any other should create space for students to undertake school education in 10+2 or 11+1 system

More scenario based questions must be asked to evaluate the students level of understanding the concept. Scenario based questions will make the schools to change their approach in educating the students. Rating student by marks should be avoided as it makes the schools, parents, students to focus memorizing than understanding the concepts. A section of questions should be reserved for scenario based question and mark sheets should specify marks gained on this sections exclusively.

Ministry of education must transform school curricula and schedule of examinations. A child's performance must include sports and drill that builds his body and develops his mind. Promotion must depend on monthly tests, rather than one or two exams. Children must have time for play. Oral/reading tests will develop their speaking skill which is valuable.

Based on my experiences after closely working with govt. and private schools throughout India as a volunteer on many educational projects , I strongly believe that the real problem is with the goal setting exercise and assessment techniques in our education system. Board exams or no board exams don't really matter much. what we need is an Independent Assessment agency that is different from the goal setting and training responsibilities. This is something like the maker checker model. and

In exams there should be objective type questions, but questions should be analytical which will make them to think in order to solve a problem. Exam should not involve any copying among student. And most important thing is first teacher need to be trained to solve analytical problems and also change their style of teaching.
