A multi-lingual society recognises the importance of education in languages. While there are some interventions for appointment of language teachers and promotion of classical languages, there is no comprehensive scheme or language policy and we need to have inputs on this dimension.

Language Skill Development: What is the purpose of having so many lessons in textbooks? It serves mere exam point of view. Pupil study & forget it. Better having more focus & giving more time on speaking & writing skill rather then giving more time to complete textbook lesions. 95% of education system for languages is just teaching for exam purpose, that's why students lacks in speaking i.e. speaking English language. It should have purpose to train pupil to speak & write,it would be fruitful.

Kids can be taught many languages, provided the focus is primarily on speaking. Writing, grammar etc. can be moved out to say, secondary school. If a particular teacher speaks only one language, consistently, to the kids, all of them will learn the teachers’ language. This is well known. There is too much emphasis on high quality (literary) language and on writing and grammar too early. Languages must be taught as if they are foreign languages – speaking ability and enjoyment first

Sanskritam 'Samyak kritam' means 'well created'. The phonetic based approach, root-based word formations, meta-language based grammar of panini, possibility of unlimited creativity in word formation along with the structured grammar providing for understanding of newly created words by any reader, ability to create metered poetry's etc, puts Sanskrit well ahead of any language in the world. Even by secular standards it is a language deserves to be imparted to all Indians if not entire humanity.

Languages have become a identity for states today due to linguistic division of the country. There was a time in recent past when big composers in telugu like Tyagaraja Swami, Shyama sastri lived in core tamil centers like tanjore, but created compositions in telugu, and widely followed by people of various mother tongue. Similarly, raghavendra swami who's works were in kannada was resident of trichy district. The language education should be designed to educate - indian language root is one.

Respected Authority, As a citizen, i am voicing my opinion in view of many other opinions on the discussion here. I see there are many people that want Sanskrit to be compulsory in school. This i believe has to be taken very seriously after secondary schooling. Basic Sanskrit can be taught from secondary school. However,we should not make it as an official subject. All Indian languages can be added as subjects. I hope other citizens would voice their responses on this. Please do reply.
