With the GST coming into effect from 1st July, 2017, the biggest indirect tax reform of independent India, is going to transform the way indirect tax is administered in this country, impacting not just businesses but also the common man. GST is a tax on consumption of goods and services, which is levied at all stages right from manufacturing up to final consumption, with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. It is going to remove the tax-on-tax effect through separate Central and State tax laws. In a nutshell, under GST, only value addition will be taxed , hence, reducing the burden of tax to be borne by the final consumer.

The most fundamental change in GST besides the consolidation of multiple taxes, is the use of a robust shared IT infrastructure in its operations. All the forms related to registrations, filing returns and other related activities can now be done through the GSTN Portal.

GST will help build an economically stronger India, with 'One Nation, One Tax, One Market.'

I would like to ask the same question as Mr. Ashok Gulati. What is the purpose of GST if States are still free to charge more taxes ? Another thing I would like to know about is How can we achieve a Digital India if Transaction Charges of NEFT/IMPS and other online transaction will be charged the way these are being charged by various Banks. I would like to suggest that ePayments should be Promoted by removing these Charges completely rather than restricting the number of transactions on ATM.

I was very happy on India going for GST. Now, with states able to charge more Taxes under different heads, TN ( Entertainment / Corporation ) and Maharashtra charging additional Road Tax, very purpose of concept is getting defeated. If this trend is not stopped, very soon we will see all states charging more taxes under different heads totally defeating concept of One India One Tax. Can I know views of decision makers / GST Council ??

If service provider is having turnover less than 75 lakhs having GST no. Mention on his invoice along with GST no. Of service takers and if invoice is charge with GST since service provider is in composit scheme paying 1% gst what will be the liability on service takers. Similarly if service provider is having sales less tha 20 lakhes will not mention gst no. And also gst is not charge what will be the liability on service accepter Umesh Surotia

Dear MyGov, This is best move from gov to prevent corruption, a lot of benefits to the peoples. There is lake of Awareness in the peoples, state level executions are not doing properly and most of the people increased price using the name GST. Example: GST implemented after 1 week, 500ml Nandini milk price in Bangalore remain same MRP 18Rs, and the shops are selling for 19Rs(1Rs for refrigeration charge). Footpath small food shops not paying tax they are increased 5Rs because of GST.

most of the traders are simply adding the GST rate old prices and hood wink the customers mainly in restaurant/pharma sector with out giving the benefit of input credit. Also many manufacturers are in confusion as to how to fix the prices. Therefore for each of the HSN chapter/ codes sample working be given and published. The anti profiteering clause be advertised and action taken.for eg in some small places the hike is more than GST rate and they attiribute to GSt.

GST on AIDS and appliances for disability prevention, Rehabilitation of physically challenged and Senior citizens, has been fixed at 5% and 13%, earlier there was no tax on them, same thing if prescribed in technical language is less then in common terminology., these should be completely exempted as people have to buy them in necessity.

FOR Comission agents :under service tax Regime there is aThreshold exemption Limit if the gross receipt within a financial year is 10 Lakh.but it appears that under GST such pure comission agent/Broker working as an intermeditary between two principals there is no such exemption ( alhough for other service providers there is a thershold exemption of upto 20 Lakh.) why this is discrimantion to such Agents/Brokers even selling within the same state.
