The electronics waste (e-waste) comprises of discarded electrical and electronic equipment, and poses serious challenges globally for improper disposal practices especially in informal sector.

Hon’ble PM has emphasized the need for creating awareness for environmental issues under “Swach Digital Bharat’ during his address at NASSCOM event on 01.03.2015. On the direction of Hon’ble PM, MeitY has initiated the “Awareness Programme on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste through Digital India Initiative” over a period of five years to create awareness among the public about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the informal sector and educate them about alternate methods of disposing their e-waste.

Over 95 per cent of e-waste generated is managed by the informal sector. Integration of the informal sector and access to environmentally safe recycling technologies may reduce the health and environmental hazards. In addition to technology, capacity building, skill management, scientific recycling mechanism, business management training are also required for safe recycling of e-waste.

In this context, MeitY is inviting citizen inputs to provide solution for leakage of E-Waste in the informal sector, and suggest proper recycling technology for E-Waste that is economically available.

The last date of submission of suggestions is 4th April, 2018.

For any further information about E-Waste, please visit the GREENE website.

There are more than 1 electronic shop/mobile shop available per street, it can be used as a hub to collect E-waste from people. If a person delivers his/her e-waste to that shop she/he should be awarded. The award may be given like mobile recharges or train ticket vouchers. This may motivate people to continue so. Then from that shop, e-waste can be collected and disposed of properly. But here that shop owner also be paid.

Mandate each RnD unit of any product to research and adopt re use method and come up with certified refurbished series of product. This can either be sold in India or to poor nation. This can be used as charity for poor people or organization. Like refurbished computer should be sold at discounted rate.

Main point is - have RnD dept for any product to research and come up with recycling method.Lets have L0 work done at source only. Encourage scientist to research in e waste mgmt techniques. 1. Appeal HNI to invest in e waste recycling project. Give some subsidy. Self recycle or outsource or sell out to other nation. 2. Impose rules for segregation: electronic, cables etc. 3. Setup recycling unit in district or taluka place and not in metro.

In my opinion the best possible way to reduce e-waste are:- 1.By reusing the components for various other purposes such as making DIY stuffs. 2.By extracting the raw gold used in electronics for connection using various physical, chemical and electrical methods. 3.By creating a junkyard website where people and DIY enthusiast can buy e-waste which may be useful for them. 4.By providing home e-waste pickup service to prevent harmful dumping of e-waste. Etc
