Kalyan-Dombivli has been short-listed as one of the 100 cities in India to be developed as a SMART City under the SMART Cities Mission. Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) is in the process of preparing a Smart City Proposal to compete in the nation-wide Smart City Challenge. Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation seeks the valuable inputs of the citizens to assist in the preparation of smart city vision. We request you to share your thoughts and aspirations on this discussion forum. The needs, aspirations and dreams of the citizens are to be articulated through the SMART CITY vision. KDMC is looking for active participation of the citizens to understand their likes and dislikes about the city, the city features to leverage for smart city development, and thoughts for optimum utilization of the city resources. The suggestions are welcomed on various smart solutions for urban services like water supply, sewerage, solid waste management; aesthetics, transport, health, e-governance and IT interventions.

The first objective of the Smart City should be to make the city liveable. Please refer to the report by The Economist on Global Liveability Ranking 2015 - http://www.eiu.com/public/topical_report.aspx?campaignid=Liveability2015

I noticed one major issue of Dombivli and Kalyan is that of water supply. I saw that some society gets 24 hrs water supply and some gets for 0.5 hrs a day. If there can be efforts made to make the City fully water efficient and uniformly to all then this could be the best step towards growth.

Not only hawkers but even residents throw garbage anywhere on the road or storm water drain on the side of road, particularly corners. There should be a facility for other residents to complain with exact location of such newly created garbage disposal spots.

For all illegal construction, not only builders and architects but the concerned officers also should be held responsible and punished. A construction takes a long duration such as 7-8 months or more. It is difficult to believe that such illegal construction was not noticed by officers yet no action is taken on such illegal buildings during construction period. An illegal construction identification squad can be appointed for such identification of illegal construction.

1. Most of the roads are full with unauthorized parking that makes other traffic movements difficult. Many buildings have encroached footpaths next to them, constructed ramp and are using it as their own parking facility. There is no space for the pedestrians to walk. Such parking should not be allowed altogether as it hinders the traffic movement – vehicular or pedestrian or if it unavoidable, such parking should be made pay and park. At least it will act as fund generator then.
