I submit following points for your kind considerations: (1) Fixed medical allowance of Rs 1000 per month is not enough to meet the routine medical expenses of a family in the current period. I am a retired person and unable to comply with the cumbersome procedure of medical bill reimbursement. Hence, opted for fixed medical allowance. Kindly increase it to at least Rs 5000 per month. (2) The 7th pay commission recommended staggering of pension allowance 5%, 10% and 15% at the age of 65, 70 and 75 years also which at present is granted 20% only after attaining the age of 80 years. You are requested to kindly make provisions to implement the same as 50% of the pensioners do not attain the age of 80 years. Implementation of this recommendation will help pensioners and their families to sustain in the burgeoning living expenses. With regards,

Capital gains indexation benefit on debt funds purchased prior to April 1, 2023 which had been grandfathered was withdrawn in the last budget. This amounts to retrospective taxation as several individuals had used these funds to build a retirement corpus that would provide funds through SIPs. This has imposed a huge tax burden on the middle class and this indexation benefit should be restored. Debt funds generally offer only modest rates of return and are a safe instrument for building a retirement corpus. During Covid debt funds generated only 5-6% in returns and withdrawing the capital gains indexation further lowers the return for investors. Also, all such significant tax changes should be made prospectively only, encouraging honest tax payers and building faith and credibility.

Dear Sir/Madam, income tax relief has to be given at the max for people in the lower income group. This relief can be given at a considerably higher rate if the same is made not applicable to the higher income group. For e.g. why is the same standard deduction applicable to people earning more than 1 crore? Cap this to less than 1 Cr salary and pass on the savings in the form of enhanced standard deduction to salaried class having less than 1 Cr income.
