Nearly a decade and half has passed since the National Policy for Empowerment of Women, 2001 was formulated. Since then significant strides in global technology and information systems have placed the Indian economy on a trajectory of higher growth impacting the general populace and women, in particular in unique and different ways. The discourse on women’s empowerment has been gradually evolving over the last few decades, wherein paradigm shifts have occurred –from seeing women as mere recipients of welfare benefits to mainstreaming gender concerns and engaging them in the development process of the country. These changes have brought forth fresh opportunities and possibilities for women’s empowerment while at the same time presenting new and emerging challenges which along with persisting socio-economic problems continue to hinder gender equality and holistic empowerment of women.

The policy envisions a society in which, women attain their full potential and are able to participate as equal partners in all spheres of life. It also emphasises the role of an effective framework to enable the process of developing policies, programmes and practices which will ensure equal rights and opportunities for women.

The broad objective of the policy is to create a conducive socio-cultural, economic and political environment to enable women enjoy de jure and de facto fundamental rights and realize their full potential.

Priority Areas

1. Health including food security and nutrition
2. Education
3. Economy
4. Governance and Decision Making
5. Violence Against Women
6. Enabling Environment

Women only means "bahu "for you or you will include sister in and mother in law in your word women . Even after get threatened harresed by " bahu" and her family groom's family even can't protest and bride can easily file false cases on all family members. Sister in law and mother in law have no rights in India. Any body who read this post I only suggest never marry Indian girls until govt change marital law which are totally against you if you are boy or mother or sister of boy

I am not in favour of such lop sided laws. On one hand we talk of equality and on otherhand we make biased laws. Is it correct to empower somone so much that again there is a rise of inequality. Please do not end up creating gaps. You need both gender to maintain this ecology. Do not make one section so weak please. I hope men commiting suicide underthereats of laws in favour of women would be looked into. Why there is cry of only one gender whynot for humanity as a whole? Lets practiceequality

Why is govt. silent on the gross misuse of the stringent Rape laws. Why is there no punishment for filing false rape cases? A men's reputation means nothing to Modi govt ?? why?? i urse govt to put stringent laws so that females who file false cases are punished.

Why is govt silent on the misuse of the Dowry and domestic voilence laws? I urge govt to repeal 498a or atleast put a misuse clause in it so that women dont file false dowry cases. This law is only destroying the indian family culture.

Ther is no need for the policy as such. Why you are making mens' life as secondary human ? Why there is need to break the country further, the castebase reservation, the religion, the statewise ethenticity is doing it from many years ? Please let BHARAT unite ! Gender based baised laws are doing their work by breaking country under#FeministsPressure. #DontBreakBharat

NPW 2016 will be another policy to ruin Indian family system. In the name of Women Empowerment we are just bringing biased policies and laws and being a Ministry for women and Child welfare, the draft policy has absolutely no policy for male child. The policy also talks about giving priorities during critical illness based on Gender, Not sure where are we heading. Please fix all the issues in the draft policy before passing it.

In India so many laws are already gender biased and if anymore special policy is made for women then it will result in genocide of males in India. As already some of the mischievous women are misusing the these gender biased laws against their male spouses and in-laws to meet their monetary demands using this legal terrorism. India should make neutral policy for both genders so that none id previlaged and none is unprivileged. As both have same levels of intellectual brains.

I condemn the policy for Women empowerment as it is only ANTI-MEN and is a biased policy. Why is Modi govt silent on the gross misuse of RAPE LAWS ostensibly made to protect women. Why not we attach a misuse clause in it. I was a MODI fan. But I doubt that i would support such a female biased govt. who is hell bent on punishing males who are innocent. Just to "empower" females and give them reservation. Instead of meritocracy, govt is only promoting reservation. Why is male child being ignored.

Dear Mr. Modi, Why are we drafting policies which are anti-men. Why are the policies only being made for Women. Has the men ceased to matter to Modi Govt. This is not I voted for. The policies shud be for human being. But it seems all the policies are being made in the baised manner to benefit Females. I condemn such one side policies which are being made only in favor of Women. Already women are mis-using and abusing the Stringent and one sided Dowry and rape laws. Modi govt. is silent WHY
