"Accessibility is not charity — it is a basic human right." The Draft Accessibility Standards for the Products Sector are a major step towards making India inclusive. But for real change, we must ensure these standards focus on practical usability for all. I suggest: 1. Universal Design: All products should be usable by everyone, regardless of ability, without needing special modifications. 2. User Testing: Products must be tested by people with different disabilities to find and fix real barriers. 3. Affordability: Accessibility should be built in without increasing costs beyond reach. 4. Digital Accessibility: Any digital interface or app linked to a product should follow international guidelines like WCAG. 5. Training: Designers and manufacturers must be trained in accessibility and sensitised to the daily challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
