In the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016, India sent its largest ever Olympic contingent comprising of 118 athletes. Despite the large number of athletes, the Indian contingent managed to bag only 2 medals in the Games viz., one Silver medal in Badminton and one Bronze medal in Wrestling. Considering the size of our country it can be said that the present performance was not up to the country’s potential. Views/suggestions are invited on what specific steps need to be taken to realise full sporting potential of India in forthcoming Olympics in 2020, 2024 and 2028.

ALL SCHOOLS WHETHER IT IS GOVT OR PRIVATE SHOULD KEEP ONE HOUR EVERY DAY FOR SPORTS. PHYSICAL TRAINING TEACHERS SHOULD IDENTIFY THE STUDENTS WHO ARE PERFORMING WELL AND THEIR INTREST FOR SPORTS SHOULD BE INFORMED TO PARENTS.STATE GOVT SHOULD PROVIDE GOOD FACILITIES AND COACH FOR THOSE TALENTED STUDENTS SHOULD BE PROVIDED FOR IMPROVING THEIR PERFORMANCE. IF ALL SCHOOLS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY IF THEY GO IN THIS DIRECTION, THE MEDALS WILL INCREASE OFCOURSE SPECIAL BUDGET FOR OLYMPICS SHOULD BE KEPT.

Like academic talent search exams like the NTSE, there should be a national sporting talent search organized by the government at every major city in India to absorb talent in sports. Selected candidates should receive scholarships and be sent to prestigious sports academies and institutions around the nation for specialized training and conditioning.

Dear Sir, The best way is to deploy the perfect Physical Education Teachers in schools who can identify the correct talent inside each students having curiosity in particular sport with which they can shine in future and develop them in particular field. It may look funny in following statement but its 100% True. "if math teacher want to use PET periods in schools, how gold will come in Olympics." Thank you.

In our country, cricket is extra-glorified. Cricket matches receive widespread coverage where sports like swimming, javelin, even these national level sports receive no attention at all. Just like Govt has started airing defence jobs ads, working on the same lines, a campaign to glorify Olympic sports and attract the youth to the same should be undertaken. These sports should be pushed to the social mainstream and should receive the same attention and funding as received by the BCCI and others.

Dear Modiji and Team, We should build sports training institute across countries on Public-private partnership (PPP) model. All types of sports like Swimming, Table/Lawn-Tennis, Badminton etc. should be covered in this institute and world class trainers/coaches should apply for Job. Each school can send their top 5 students/players and shortlisted based on their Merits/performance. Selection committee should have members from all categories of sports who achieved some milestone in their past.
