Overview:-

The Internet of Things (IoT) can transform the agriculture industry and enable farmers to contend with the enormous challenges they face. The industry must overcome increasing water shortages, limited availability of lands, fertility of lands difficult to manage cost, while meeting the increasing consumption needs of a global population that is expected to grow by 70% by 2050.

Objective:-

New innovative IoT applications will address these issues and help in increasing the quality, quantity, sustainability and cost effectiveness of agricultural production. For example, leverage IoT can be leveraged to allow the farmers to evaluate the soil conditions, moisture level, livestock feed levels density and level of pest control. say if the level of pest control exceeds prescribed range, through sensors alarm and alerts can be generated to warn the farmers to take actions.

The purpose of “Smart Farming” is to increase the quality and quantity of agricultural production by using sensing technology to make farmers more intelligent and more connected.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on:

• How an individual or an organization may contribute to Smart Farming.
• Experiences and challenges in using technology as a tool in farming.
• Practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of the future of farming- “Smart Farming” using IoT

I feel, in order to make India more greener, It has to be mandatory for the farmers in dry areas, to grow at least two trees diagonally per acre of land in their fields. The Govt. can extend some incentive to these farmers. The incentives shall be enhanced depending upon the age of trees. The areas shall be decided by Govt. Which increases the population of trees which shall help in turn for good rainfall.

Shift to organic farming. All inputs such as biofert and biopesticides should be prepared by farmer itseif.so there is assurance of quality.Use your own agricultural and cattle waste for compost production.use bacterial cultures as fertlizer and pesticides which are harmless.use plant extracts as pesicides .Use green manuring. It is non polluting, harmless, sustainable system.Pl follow it,experincing with good results.

1. Motivation & encouragement required to farmers in villages - teaching them the importance they play in our lives everyday. 2. Seeds should be available in cities and people should be made aware of organic farming in their terrace/garden at home. 3. Retrace, Recycle and find the water beds like lakes, ponds in various parts of the country which has been left out at bay. Health is Wealth, Healthy Farming is the oxygen for our Health.Jai Kissan!!

Why sea water could not be used for Irrigation purposes? If Coconut trees can grow near Sea, why not other crops could be grown by using Sea Water by managing through pipeline from sea to farming land. At least we will be able to satisfy the thirst of the Earth.

Today there is a need of constructing ponds at large scale, by which we increase the water level of land. A simple idea which can lower the high cost of digging ponds is: Now a day, Road constructing and railway root constructing is on the way. If soil, Gravels (Small stones), used in construction of road is dig out from the common place, it will automatically create a small pond, later on with the help of local administration, can be made cemented. And no. of ponds can be increased with low cost

Sir, smart farming should perforce include smart storage / food processing. Towards this #IOT can be used to create storage monitoring devices. CCTV surveillance of storage units, through FCI or local private units for safety & to monitor pests. Home groups can be directly connected to food processing units for direct interaction regarding requirement, scheduling & pricing. #IOT can also be programmed to network transport facilities, transport hubs & weigh stations to home groups.

Sir, farmers should be encouraged to do co-op farming & form home groups through dedicated software through #IOT. These sets of farmers can be registered through home groups to share input, ask queries & have inter / intra group discussion & updates. This will lead to optimisation of resources with knowledge & regulation of input costs & best offers. Such groups should also be connected to e-auction sites - e-shandy for better procurement price.

Sir, #IOT to 1.monitor water resources, use of hydrophonic meters connected to digital devices to monitor humidity & soil moisture to modify irrigation requirement, 2.sharing weather data & pestilence in the local network, of probably co-op farmers will improve preparedness. 3.dedicated soft ware for soil monitoring tagged to the soil health card scheme will help in judicious use of fertilisers - chemical / organic. 4.Regular updates on stock availability, seeds, fertiliser & pesticide prices.
