The availability of reliable quality and affordable electricity helps in the rapid agriculture, industrial and overall economic development of a State/U.T. The methodology to bring reforms in the distribution of power supply has to be developed in consultation with various stakeholders of the city. The Engineering Department, Chandigarh Administration is responsible for supply of electricity in U.T., Chandigarh. As of now almost all the area getting sufficient power supply throughout the day, but still there is some of the shadow area in which power supply is problematic. 3.Solar energy-Mandate the use of solar panels in every house.
Benefits-Earlier a person wrote Chandigarh utilizes 350MW power solar energy will lower the energy generation pressure from you. Moreover in the near future electric or hydrogen driven cars will be common as some companies have made there first cars currently being driven in Europe or waiting for correct time to manufacture as the demand comes.Mandate it or INDIA wont be able to keep up with the energy requirements when that happens.

I am a localite and who wont be knowing the solutions for major issues than a localite.
1. Replace all overhead distribution networks by underground XLPE cables. We don't live in 1800's it looks nice not to see the whole country filled with hanging wires.
2.Cover all distribution/Transmission networks under Supervisory Data Acquisition Control System(SCADA) that would make fault detection easy.

2.Cover all distribution/Transmission networks under Supervisory Data Acquisition Control System(SCADA) that would make fault detection easy.
3. Outsource fault clearance unit and enforce time bounded clearance.
4. Replace old meter from Digital one.
5. Make bill payment option customer friendly

Chandigarh's maximum peak demand is around 350 MW only, which it has been meeting consistently over the months/years. So supply side has no any major issue, even if demand of electricity would grow in this UT region, it has enough share in Central pool allocation or through bilateral arrangement could meet the future demand easily. Problem lie in distribution sector. Here are some of my suggestions:-
1. Replace all overhead distribution networks by underground XLPE cables. It would

UT must consider installing electronic pre-paid meters. Evaluate the existing meters available in the country and internationally. These meters are smart card based which can be easy linked with ISP services. Many problems like meter readings, bill generation, payments receipts, max load calculations etc will get resolved. Customer friendly since the smart card can recharged at anytime & anywhere.
