Government of India launched the Smart Cities Mission to enable the holistic development of Indian cities. This initiative under the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) aims to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local development and harnessing technology as a means to create smart outcomes for citizens. According to MoUD, the core elements of a Smart City include: adequate water and electricity supply, suitable sanitation and solid waste management, efficient public transportation, affordable housing, robust IT connectivity and digitalization, e-governance with citizen participation, sustainable environment, and safety and security of citizens with health and education for all. These objectives are proposed to be attained through a judicious mix of retrofitting, redevelopment and Greenfield development.

With the above mentioned objective city of Dehradun has been analyzed in detail to find the issues, strengths and potential of various locations, with respect to Smart city features. Consultations with various departments, para-statal agencies and public have been done to choose the most favorable site. Various proposals of government departments and their schemes have been studied and its integration in terms of development and financial support have also been carried out.

For the proposed ABD, detailed citizen consultation and consent is being carried out. The inputs from citizens will be reflected the vision and overall proposal. The identified ABD site during round 1 is strategically located on fast developing Chakrata Road, Shimla By-pass Road over a land parcel of 350 acres. This site will be transformed into a TOD based development making it hub for Higher and Technical Education, Knowledge Hub, Hospitality Hub, Special Agro Produce Zone, etc. The idea is to de-congest the existing city as well as monetize the potential of strategic land, thus providing socio-economic development with best in class facilities. The proposed project envisages a total investment of over 4000 crores and the tentative benefits generated from the project to the tune of over 1500 crores over a time span of 5-7 years, are planned to be invested in all the identified four zones of the existing city of Dehradun. The identified area happens to water recharge area, so the project proposal essentially includes use of technologies to ensure that water retention in the area is maintained to the current level.

The goals of improving governance and tourism in the city will be met through better information availability, smarter services and one stop shops at the city level. This is currently planned through a mobile platform which is envisioned as a single point of contact for citizens and business. Several services for citizens will be provisioned through mobile, which has high penetration and businesses will find it easy to avail licenses, seek permits and approvals. This city app will also provide platform for local manufacturers of forest products, textiles and food industry to market their products and sell them beyond Dehradun adding to city exports. This mobile application will group all data input from the convergence with existing areas & services of Dehradun, like water supply, power, e-governance, transportation and new level of application is being planned under this initiative.

Kindly, share your views, suggestions or feedback for Smart City Dehradun till 18th March, 2016.

People who r in favour of smart city think dat v r fools. D proposed city hs already drawn opposition frm the BJP, AAP,sum politicians of ruling party , envirionmentalists , besides locals a plantation workers. V want to make dun smart bt nt at d cost of tea gardn. V cn make it a bettr place. Instead of spending crores on dis projct gov shld provide d infrastructur nd opportinities 2 rural population. Do sumthing fr destitutes nd homeless people. Existing city shuld b givn a facelift.

They can built smart city on an alternative site. No issues. Gov shld look fr a barren land 2 build d city. V shuld preserve d citys hetitage tea gardn.i agree wid kiran. They cn use d tea gardn fr orgainc farming and 2 grow seasonal vegetables. NEEDS CN BE MET BT GREEd CAN NEVER B FULFILLED. Dun is becoming a concrete jungl. Builders in collusion wid gov officials r constructing illegal multi storey buildings. Everybody knows online poling is rigged.

I disagree wid u binita. Gov is misleading d peopl.hw long does it tak 2 build a house 6-11 months. Dey cant even complete d flyover projct on tym. u r dreaming .hw long does it take a tree 2 fully grow. A large numbr of trees hav already been felled in dun for commercial purposes. If d green belt is removd ,it wil adversly affect d climate of dun A large numbr of people r against it bt did nt vote yet due 2 various reasons. V cn make our city a better place.if v opt fr retrofiting

I think THere is a misconception in between few people that smart city in green field will destroy greenary but the fact is quite opposite.Acc. to my knowledge if govt.will finalise this area as A smart city area then govt. will develop proper green patches, parks in an awsome manner with the help of central funding etc.Proper plantation and proper maintainance of nearby greenary and trees will be made by Govt. just like FRI AREA. SO IT WILL BE THE GR8 OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO HELP GOVT. IN THIS.

GOVT. OF UK IS HAS DONE A VERY GUD JOB BY CONSIDERING THIS AREA IN A SMART CITY AREA.People of D.Dun are very intelligent thats why people are voting silently in maximum quantity without any confusion in favour of GREEN field only. Now it will be the responsibilty of the GOVT. TO RESPECT the E opinion poll option no 5 which is getting a huge support and votes from the public.I really appreciates the govt. firm move to make smart city in this isolated area which will benefit the whole doon.

Am toatally in favour of option 5 green field.Plz save this area by SUPPORTING GOVT TO MAKE SMART CITY IN THIS AREA.Bcoz. Govt. is planning to build and save greenary and platations in proper manner with the HELP OF FRI in a smart city.AT present this area is working as a DUSTBIN AND GARBAGE COLLECTION CENTRE of all nearby areas. THIS AREA IS FULL OF DENSE WILD BUSHES, GARBAGE, SEWAGE AND POLYTHENES.THEESE things disturbing the whole atmosphere very badly.

I only want that Doon get its greenery back. It's moving towards concrete city like Delhi. Population should be controlled, don't allow people outside of doon to capture any property here. Replace Vikrams with new vehicles, they are noisy and very much pollute city. We have to go for CNG option as early as possible.
