First of all education is the most needed. I noticed that there are no colleges or universities in chennai that offer Astronomy courses like Astrophysics. If a student wishes to study such courses then he or she has to go to bengaluru or mumbai. Such a state should be eradicated. Why should our city students seek the help of other cities for education. Think....

1. Get Cooum and Adyar rivers cleaned up with Private participation and make it a tourist spot with boating. 2. Setup shops in MRTS stations like vegetable market, fancy stores, etc. much like Pondy Bazaar so we have safe stations. This way we could free up roads from pavement vendors. 3. Demolish old shopping complexes and construct new ones and lease them upfront so you get construction costs.

(contd) To promote public transport, mini eco-vehicles that provide transport/shuttle services for commuters for short distances to the nearest railway station(MRTS/METRO/suburban) from in and around the area, can be initiated, with a similar structure as the auto idea(previous post). This can prove effective with the rising number of unnecessary private vehicles that pollute the atmosphere and create extreme traffic. Initiation of these projects can be made through foreign investment or PPP.

(Contd) To tackle the pollution problem, the city can commission eco-autos(importantly) and buses. The autos should run on solar power/CNG or both. The autos should not be simply distributed, but a dedicated organisation should be formed to make an 'eco-auto community' sponsored by the govt.. This org. can make an smartphone app for it, and make it easier for commuters to search for the nearest eco-autos, which run on proper meter rates. In addition, CNG bunks must be setupfor easier access.
