Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

Government should introduce cloud computing platform for this purpose so that large number of documents can piled up together . Adhar card ID should be used as login id for all india user. This will be true acess to all internet services provided by e-governance .I suggest cloud service because it has got vast storage eg: min 10 GB or more .For each user. But care of cyber security should be taken to extreme limit. Mobile version of this app should have facility to scan UID to acess app

The beta site is showing a HTTPS warning message as the digital certificate of the site is not proper. Please correct this, as the end user should trust the system.

To kick start the adoption of digital locker, it would be a good idea to upload the aadhar card soft copies of all citizens to the platform. Login would be using OTP on registered mobile number.
