Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

The Digital Locker should be screen reader friendly for blind users. Image verification should have an alternative like audio or one time password, the documents issued should be machine readable and screen reader friendly. See a video of how blind people use screen readers for computers / mobiles and other technologies.

Step 1 - secure the website with a VALID certificate! It is disheartening to see a broken certificate on such a security-focused website.

It is still in beta form and there fore has many glitches. Moreover 1)allocated 10mb space is too small to hold all digital documents.any plan for increasing space? 2)The security of the documents-data encryption-local machine encryption etc 3)scope of data accession by gov and 3rd parties needs to be revealed 4)Though many buds have been resolved the issue of being logged out continuously still remains a concern 5)https protocol also needs to be used for data security

The website is not secure i.e. https://. The data which is being uploaded is confidential data. It is essential to make the site secure. Many people are not using the site since it is unsecure.

There should be an offline encryption like a desktop/mobile application which fist encrypt it on users machine and then upload it on server and on server there is another encryption so double encryption can protect it more. and if some one want it and sever send a request to user's mobile or other system and the decrypt it and serve to requester
