Ensuring access to higher education is critical to mobilising greater participation thereby increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio. How can we address the issue of skewed access to higher education which will reduce existing regional disparities and why have existing schemes failed to resolve these gaps.

Existing schemes have failed mostly due to misuse of funds and lack of accountability in administration. The disadvantaged groups in rural areas need to be identified and catered to. There should be a stricter monitoring mechanism to see to it that the resources provided for them are not misappropriated. The regional backwardness in education can be addressed by strengthening the existing colleges and polytechnic
