Ignite solutions for safer roads!
ThinkSafe - A Road Safety Ideathon organised by the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), IIT Madras, under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), in collaboration with MyGov, to challenge students, innovators, and change makers to ideate practical, scalable interventions that tackle India’s most pressing road safety issues. The Ideathon is purely conceptual - no prototype or proof of concept is required. Participants are expected to submit a clearly articulated idea supported by:
I. a structured presentation (PPT, maximum 8 slides)
II. an explainer video link (5-10 min). (Online Drive link with public view access)
Ideas must focus on promoting responsible road behaviour, civic responsibility, and defensive driving habits among road users. Participants must clearly define the problem, target group, context, and practical implementation using the 4W1H methodology:
i. Problem Statement: What is the identified road safety or civic behaviour problem/ challenge
ii. Why: Explain why the identified problem is important, who it affects, and how addressing it can reduce risk, improve safety, or enhance civic responsibility on roads.
iii. What: What is the suggested intervention/ idea that addresses the identified problem.
iv. Who: Define the target group that benefits by the solution (e.g., pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, motorists, public transport users, or mixed road users).
v. Where: Specify the context or setting for application (e.g., intersections, school zones, urban streets, highways, residential areas).
vi. How: Describe the methodology of working of the proposed solutions as a flowchart/ graphical representation of working steps. The solution is to be practical, low-cost and high impact. It should be a scalable and implementable strategy/ solution.
vii. Expected Impact of the solution.
Winner Selection Criteria:
Winners will be evaluated by a jury based on:
(i) Clarity and depth of the proposed idea.
(ii) Originality of the idea and its potential to introduce new thinking, technologies, or strategies in road safety.
(iii) The extent to which the proposed intervention prioritizes user needs and offers scalable, practical, and sustainable impact.
(iv) Potential to create measurable improvements in road safety outcomes, with emphasis on behavioral change, cost-effectiveness, and ease of implementation.
(v) Compliance with the specified submission format, content requirements, and presentation rules (e.g., slide limit, explainer video recording).
Gratification:
1.) First winner to receive prize money of ₹30,000/-.
2.) Second winner to receive prize money of ₹15,000/-.
3.) Third winner to receive prize money of ₹10,000/-.
