Concept

Mother's Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. This day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May every year and is an occasion to show your affection, respect and care towards your mother.

In the spirit of celebrating Mother’s day, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India is organizing a Contest inviting stories about mothers. The Contest shall commence from 8th May, 2016 for a month long duration, ending on 6th June, 2016.

The concept of this campaign is to promote the idea of children sharing anecdotes/ stories about their mother who has defied gender stereotypes, raised her voice against gender discrimination and championed the cause of gender equality and empowerment. This story should have left a long lasting impact and consequently led to a change in the mindset of her family and/or the community at large. The premise is based on the fact that relationship with mother is one of the closest and may be a strong influencer in shaping behaviours and attitudes of her children. A mother is also a source of inspiration and a role model for her children. When an anecdote/story is narrated about a mother, it can be used as a catalyst to bring about a positive change in societal mindset. This may further lead to a more gender sensitive society which recognizes the contributions of a mother, in particular and women, in general.

The objective of the contest is to engage with larger audience through sharing of stories about mothers, thereby encouraging inter-generational dialogue, sensitizing men and boys, being a role model for an empowered daughter. This also creates an opportunity for open conversations against gender discrimination, inequality and dis-empowerment, which in turn leads to a positive mindset change in the society.

Some of the suggested themes are gender equality and empowerment, gender discrimination, sexual harassment, domestic violence, social evils like dowry and early marriage and so on.

I am third daughter in my family and when I was born my relatives were not at happy and even tried to stop my breath but it was my mother who welcomed me with open arms. She is the one who stood with her 3 daughters when others were on different side. She helped us to give us equal education as given to our one brother. She handles a family of 15 members (joint family) all alone by working day and night in a thankless job. Despite all the struggles she stands proudly us.

"My mother is 52 now. 2 times, she calls me everyday in my office. She says she can not sleep till she talks to me. I sometimes ignore her call due to work. But, she waits till 12am till she gets a call from me" "The mother’s heart is so pure she never can understand from mind. She can only think from heart, say from heart and only pure emotion flows" Read the whole life story of my mother. #SunoMaaKiKahaani #MothersDay

Phuleshwari, my half Naga half Assamese nanny was a veritable Goddess. She cared for me and not once did I miss my mother who an avid sports person was mostly away on practice and tourneys. In the paddy season Phuleshwari would complete her chores around the house and lord over her field bringing the harvest home or planting seedlings in the rain. This toiling ebbed away her life force and she left to be with her creator very early. 35 years have gone by yet her glorious light still shines.

To Ministry of woman & Child Development When I was born in 09-11-1965 and till date I have not seen any single change in Law for Women & Child Development every day in morning I get up around 4:00 AM and I see the news in TV daily same same stories about Women & Child. That is this Women or Child got rape or murder and after rape and murder they throw them sea or in farm or jungle or burn them. Our BJP government made any strong and strict Law & Rule for Women & Child Development. Why people

I am so grateful to my parents, specially to my mother who strongly faced all criticism of society to raise me as their only child.I hail from a small town where people around me are so fussy about male child.Since my childhood I have observed that whenever I say I am the only child to my parents, they get so shocked.Infact I had heard relatives taunting Maa for her decision, but breaking all stereotypes they raised me like a princess and today I make them proud each single day with my achievements
