To generate awareness about the importance of handloom industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, 7th August is celebrated every year as “National Handloom Day”. August 7 was chosen as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement which was launched on this day in 1905 in the Calcutta Town hall. The first National Handloom Day was inaugurated on 7thAugust 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centenary Hall of Madras University in Chennai.
Ministry of Textiles (DC-Handlooms) is organizing a selfie contest where Indian citizens are requested to wear Indian Handloom and showcase their bonding with handlooms by sharing interesting selfies with Indian Handloom.
Last date to submit entries is 21st August 2022.
