It has been observed that lack of sanitation facilities has been a major issue in cities and villages. Invariably the poor are worst sufferers due to the lack of such facilities. The solution lies in creating toilets and at the same time devoting energy to maintain them.

1. Provide chargeable toilets like Sulabh which will give incentive for the operator to maintain. 2. Our Municipality infrastructure in cities for maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene has failed to provide the purpose it was intended for and needs to be revamped. 3. In Jamshedpur Tata's are maintaining the municipal limits. That model can be starting point for study and private investment. 4. Study Dubai and Singapore City infrastructure maintenance model for revamp our muncipality in IIndia.

Portable Toilet Vans: Scarcity of accessible and clean toilets is as bad in urban India as it is in rural India. I would like to propose moving vans with urinals and toilets that can be stationed on the side of roads, especially during busy hours near bus/metro/railway stations where people need to access toilets quite often. This can also be outsourced, van owner can charge some minimum amount to users. The collected materials can be used to create bio-fuels. This also doesn't need real estate.

Toilet should equip with auto flush or flush functionality so that people after use can flush ,which help in cleanliness of public toilets and avoid extra expense of toilet maintenance. But water should be available there 24*7 and there is written note in hindi or convenient language of that area which guide or remind them that they need to use flush after the use.

Start by building Toilets on National Highways - make this a mandatory clause in all highway contracts (1 toilet every 5km). Its also important that sewage treatment plants be constructed. Let the corporates fund these plants and the state can focus on building toilets and linking them to the sewage treatment plants.

This can be done through Public Private partnership. Govt. Authorities must provide "Space or Land" while "Private Players such as Corporates, NGOs, Donors etc. can construct Toilets" Separate Agency should be formed to maintain these Toilets and should be managed by Private Players GOvt. can create "Prototypes" of these toilets which can be taken as basic standards. This will help to create uniform facilities across all cities and villages.
