Nuclear Energy in India@2047: Clean Energy, Green Future & Viksit BharatAs India approaches the historic milestone of 100 years of independence in 2047, achieving energy security along with environmental sustainability stands as our top priority. Nuclear energy plays a pivotal and transformative role in realizing the vision of a self-reliant, clean, and advanced 'Viksit Bharat'.
My artwork visually captures this multi-dimensional progress driven by atomic science and innovation. At the heart of the concept is the map of India illuminated with the vibrant energy of the atom, symbolising how nuclear technology acts as the core engine powering the nation's future.
On the left side, the artwork emphasizes environmental harmony. Unlike traditional fossil fuels, nuclear power produces zero direct greenhouse gas emissions during operation. This clean energy source protects our ecosystems, ensuring lush green landscapes, rich agriculture, clean air, and preserved biodiversity.

India’s nuclear energy plan for 2047 is best understood as a long-range state project with two big goals: expanding clean baseload power and building an industrial ecosystem around nuclear technology. The headline target is about 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047, which would be a dramatic jump from roughly 8.8 GW today, and that target is now tied to the broader Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat. The plan also expects a major role for indigenous reactors, small modular reactors, and private participation under the new SHANTI framework.The reason people are paying attention is that this is not just an electricity policy; it is also a technology, climate, and industrial policy. As a future doctor, I believe nuclear technology will revolutionize healthcare through early cancer diagnosis (PET scans), life-saving radiotherapy, sterilization of medical equipment, and the production of essential radioisotopes. At the same time, it will provide clean electricity, reduce carbon emissions, support agriculture, strengthen scientific research, and protect our environment. Safe, peaceful, and innovative nuclear energy will empower a healthier, greener, and self-reliant India. This is my dream of Viksit Bharat 2047—where science powers both the nation and human life.
