During the Rashtriya Ekta Divas address on 31st October, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that the Government of India proposes to launch a new initiative called ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. The programme aims to give a boost to the existing cultural connect between different parts of the country and enhance interaction between people living in different states.

Conceptually, the idea is that each year one state should connect to any other state in India on a reciprocal basis. As the Prime Minister himself explained through an example in his speech, "Haryana as a state can decide to connect with Tamil Nadu for the year 2016 and the activities that Haryana state can undertake may include popularizing the rich heritage of Tamil Nadu in Haryana through song festivals, book festivals, literary events, food festivals, tours of people of Haryana to Tamil Nadu and vice versa. In the year 2017, Haryana would connect to any other state and in 2018 to another state and so on".

The knowledge of the culture, traditions and practices of different states will lead to an enhanced understanding and bonding between each other thereby strengthening the unity and and integrity of India. The full address of the portion of the Prime Minister's speech, where he announced the scheme, can be accessed here.

We believe that such an initiative to connect people-to-people should be implemented with inputs from the citizens of India.

With this view, MyGov introduces the ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ contest. Citizens are invited to submit their ideas and suggestions on how the programme should be structured so as to encapsulate its true spirit in all its various dimensions and capture the diversity that characterises India.

While the citizens are free to submit their ideas in kernel format, they can also expand in detail on the themes and sub-themes. Citizens may consider the following general themes on which to base their ideas, while submitting their entries. These themes are only indicative and participants are free to include any other points they deem appropriate.

1. Identifying role of central government and state governments in implementing the programme
2. Identifying the manner in which the governments, civil society and private sector can work together.
3. Specifying the Use of modern communication tools, including social media.
4. Documentation of success stories.
5. Making 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' a people's movement rather than a government programme.

Participants are encouraged to submit original and innovative ideas. An idea, merely rich in detail but lacking originality, would not score more than a very innovative idea explained briefly. However, if a very innovative idea is also explained in detail, it will naturally score higher.

Participants may submit their entries as attached PDF documents while providing a summary of their proposals in the comment section.

The winners of the contest will be awarded a certificate by the Prime Minister, along with cash prizes as follows:

1. First Prize - Rs. 100,000/-
2. Second Prize - Rs. 75,000/-
3. Third Prize - Rs. 50,000/-

The last date for submission is 25th December, 2015.

The govt. Can start inter exchange programme within states as well. This way practically the students will learn something about other states and share this experience with their state crowd. I think ,this can actually bring out the real India and promote this initiative

Education is the best tool to learn. Most of state boards/CBSE have non-detail textbooks on many novels or fiction stories which have no value in building students knowledge, instead of fictional stories put some cultural or historical backgrounds of other states.

Each state can adopt a village in neighboring/any other state and develop it in terms of infrastructure, education, farming etc. The villagers can also be part of an exchange program where they can go and stay in the sister village in the other state and exchange ideas and experiences.

I am from tamilnadu. As in the plan, Haryana and Tamilnadu is going to connect in 2016. Since history tamil nadu used to get isolated from India through language.Baseline of my idea and activities is to make taminadu ppl feel that tamilians alone cannot save the heritage, we need help of scholars who donno tamil and knows about the language and we should listen to them. We can achieve this, as a first step, by encouraging and showcasing writers who wrote boooks on tamil along tamil written books

In our normal republic day or Independence Day parades, every state will show their mascots. Instead of showing their own culture encourage states to make show items on other state cultures. In that process at least some people will come to know other cultures and discuss on them.

My suggestion is since there are 2 state govt are connected therefore make it mandatory for both state govt employees to take LTC travel for popular tourist destination of each other states with additional incentive (monetary or nonmonetory). for example employees of Haryana will travel to Tamilnadu and vice versa. This will boost travel economy of both states and cultural bond will become strong. Implementing this idea will be without additional cost burden to both states.
