INTRODUCTION

India is experiencing a rapid health transition with a rising burden of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Common NCDs such as cardio vascular diseases (CVDs), diabetes, cancer and respiratory diseases account for major portion of mortality and morbidity due to NCDs. It is estimated that NCDs account for 60% of total deaths in India. The good thing however is that all these diseases are preventable through making a choice for healthy lifestyle.

In order to prevent and control major NCDs, the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) was launched in 2010 with focus on strengthening infrastructure, human resource development, health promotion, early diagnosis, management and referral. Under the programme, NCD Clinics are being set up at District and CHC levels to provide services for common NCDs. Cardiac Care Units (CCU) are also being set up in identified districts for providing facilities for emergency Cardiac Care.

Keeping it short, crisp and at the same time, easy to memorize and relate, I have decided to coin the former department of NPCDCS as END which stands for ‘Elimination of Non-Communicable Diseases’. We can Eliminate Non-Communicable diseases by its prevention and control, which is what the programme stands for, to prevent and control major NCD’s. #NPCCS

The name of program can be named " Non Infectious Diseases and Ailments Abatement National Programme" that is NIDAAN Programme . I chose the name as NIDAAN Programme as it fits aptly with the description of NPCDCS and also NIDAAN in hindi means Diagnosis of diseases

Name should be "RACSHAD Programme". It is an acronym for 'Reaching Against Cancer, Stroke, Heart-problems and Diabetes (RACSHAD)'. It shows a perfect mix of both Hindi and English language. Also, the word sends a meaning of someone who is actually a saviour.
