To start with solid waste management, we must first start by installing such segregated bins (Figure 2) in a step-by-step process, and the type of bins used earlier(Figure 1) should be abandoned. It must first be started in metropolitan cities as they are the cause for most of the garbage. The segregated bins must first be installed in tourist spots, parks, and posh areas as people there have some awareness. These bins must also have 'plastic', 'paper' written on them in regional languages.

India is a country of temples. Many cities have developed due to the large ancient temples they are having. A large amount of waste is generated in the form of flowers devoted to the gods at such pilgrim places. These decomposing organic waste could be utlized to manufacture natural fertilizers and these fertilizers should again be given to farmers at subsidized rates to the farmers growing the flowers and fruits which are devoted to the god. This will in turn be a good way to 'recycle and use.

We can use this solid waste in construction of roads, let me explain...we can use chemicals to convert garbage into hard blocks and can than cut that into small bricks which can be laid down below the concrete, cement etc..while constructing the roads..i don't know whether it is practically possible or not as i am not a science guy...just sharing an idea to encounter this problem of solid waste management and to make our country clean.

Effective solid waste management is done with segregation of dry and wet waste at the source. There are few municipalities( http://www.moodbidritown.gov.in/ ) in our country which have effectively implemented it. as i had an opportunity to visit one such municipality recently. I was told, at the beginning people resisted for the change, but after seeing the changes people now taken up cleanliness initiative.

The feedback about the waste management of any manufacturing unit should be taken by the people staynear by. Sometimes the neighborhood public suffers a lot due to poor waste management of manufacturing unit. Complaints should be recorded against those companies immediately on feedback from local public stay in that locality and inspection should be done based on that compliant to take proper actions.

Using the strong communication medium of advertisement and media to create awareness among the public to start storing plastic, solid and food waste separately and every public place should have the same facility. Once this practice comes in to habit, it would be easier for the govt to generate the natural fertilizer from food waste and the plastic waste to be used for creating renewable plastic products. Garbage picking frm house facility should be mandatory in each city of India (small or big)
