Our cities producing large amount of solid waste which will be having large amount of energy. We can install a Biomass gasifiers which can convert these waste into gas which can be used for cooking or to generate the electricity. The end residue will be very good manure that also we can be sold to the farmers at cheaper rates

It would be great if no household waste was wasted. There are possibilities of converting each and every item of refuse into something else like new products, raw materials, gas or at least heat. When it comes to efficient waste management, Sweden is the firsy country that comes into picture. More than 99 per cent of all household waste is recycled in one way or another. the action plan for any selected town requires planning, construction and implementation. since social awareness in this matter is very low, mass campaign is needed. use of technology is another issue. traditional government departments can not go far ahead. let the state pollution control board officer of the region be the coordinator. civil engineering department of nearest engineering college with its student force may be the technical consultant. India has more challenging environment and cannot adopt systems blindly followed by the west. For India, it has to easy, cheaper, environmentally friendly, commercially viable and yet effective. MSW handling plant to be installed nearby every city with proven equipment/system, Collection of the MSW has to be predefined, i.e. Organic waste has to be collected separately for easiness of MSW processing. Govt. has to spend on R & D on both MSW handling & Sewage handling system & considering population has to develop two or three models for both MSW/Waste water handling.

1 thing that observed being a sailor is how they keep cities like Singapore so clean. The main reason would be the small size. I think the responsibility of cleanliness should be divided into small areas. Instead of a certain workforce to clean a city, break it down to teams for specific streets. Whereby it will be easier to clean and monitor the progress. It will be easy to note the wrongdoers if the area is small. We have abundance of human power. Utilize it.

The shopping malls can be made to keep large containers for the plastic bags, plastic bottles, glass bottles, metal bottles, etc. These malls and the large containers would be the collection points for recycling plants.
