Dear Shri Pradhan Mantri Modiji, I am a volunteer at Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry and am inspired by his works. I would like to suggest that you focus on the root cause of the problems in our education sector. Sri Aurobindo’s perspective is that the root cause is primarily psychological and is found within each one of us. Our minds have been colonised over centuries and hence we are motivated by our desires and external measures of success. The colonisers wanted us to think small and remain their slaves and hence our society’s focus is on doing well in exams so that we get into good institutes and then get good jobs so that we get money, financial security and fame. But our ancient culture and scriptures taught us to go inside and find our individual and unique dharma. Each one’s dharma is unique and each one of us is unique. Finding and doing one’s dharma requires us to ask ourselves what the purpose of our life is, without being biased by peers, societal expectations or birth.

      * **Rethinking India’s School Assessment System** India’s education system should place greater emphasis on conceptual understanding, curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving rather than rote memorization and examination-oriented learning. One possible reform is to move towards a cumulative assessment framework in which a student’s academic performance across several school years contributes to their overall High School CGPA, instead of placing disproportionate pressure on Grades 10 and 12 examinations. This could encourage consistent learning, reduce examination-related stress, and reward genuine understanding. At the primary level, education should also give greater attention to foundational learning, nutrition, civic sense, physical fitness, values, and personality development. Textbooks should be redesigned to make learning intuitive, comprehensive, and engaging, reducing excessive dependence on external coaching. I discussed this more in attached document here.

Honourable PM Modi ji, I request the government to give greater priority to affordable education, improvement in the quality of education, and creation of more job opportunities for the youth. Many students struggle with high education fees, while graduates face difficulties finding suitable employment. Strong action in these three areas can create a better and more secure future for India’s youth.

As a citizen, I submit these suggestions with the hope that India's journey towards a developed and self-reliant nation is accompanied by the creation of institutions, industries, technologies, and infrastructure that can compete with the best in the world. India has demonstrated its ability to achieve ambitious goals when there are a clear national vision and sustained effort.
