The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
      1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
      a. Waste management and zero waste systems
      b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
      c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
      d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
      e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
      f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
      g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

      How to participate?
      1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
      2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
      3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Here is the English version of your ideas: Ban on Single-use Plastic – Replace plastic bottles, cups, and bags with clay cups, leaf plates, and cloth bags. Waste Segregation Centers – Set up separate colored bins for wet waste, dry waste, and religious offerings. Reuse of Flowers – Convert flowers offered to the deity into compost, incense sticks, or organic fertilizer. Free Water Refill Stations – Provide water refill facilities to reduce the use of plastic bottles. Green Shivdoot Volunteers –

Transform the Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav through a "Green Seva" model. Deploy youth volunteers as Prakriti Mitras, install QR-based information and feedback systems, replace single-use plastics with eco-friendly alternatives, and implement waste segregation with color-coded bins. Convert floral waste into compost and reward visitors for sustainable actions through a Green Points system. This will make devotion and environmental responsibility go hand in hand—"Bhakti Bhi, Prakr

My idea is to make the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela a completely clean and zero-waste festival through public participation and simple technology.. A community-driven cleanliness mission should also be conducted during the mela Through regular awareness announcements and volunteer support visitors can be encouraged to keep the temple premises clean and dispose of waste responsibly Wet and dry waste should be collected separately around the temple area to ensure effect..

Idea: “Smart Zero-Waste Mahashivratri Model” Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple Mahashivratri Mahotsav can become a model Zero-Waste religious event through a combination of technology, community participation, and sustainable practices. A three-bin waste segregation system (Wet, Dry, and Religious Offerings) should be installed throughout the mela area with clear signage in Hindi and pictorial instructions. Floral offerings and organic waste can be converted into compost, while recyclab

Introduce a “Green Pilgrim Reward System” where devotees earn points for eco-friendly actions like waste segregation, using reusable bottles, and avoiding single-use plastics. Points can be redeemed for saplings, certificates, or eco-friendly gifts. Supported by QR-based tracking and Green Volunteers, this initiative can make the Mahashivratri Mela a model Zero Waste Mahotsav under the theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.
