The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
      1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
      a. Waste management and zero waste systems
      b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
      c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
      d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
      e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
      f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
      g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

      How to participate?
      1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
      2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
      3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

The biggest source of waste after the mela is the large number of plastic water bottles left behind by pilgrim. Some ways are Provide clean drinking water facilities at many locations in and around the temple. This will reduce the need for pilgrims to carry plastic water bottles, similar to the system at Tirupati Temple. Sell drinking water only in glass bottles at a slightly higher price Impose a fine on anyone found carrying or using plastic water bottles. Increase the number of volunteers to monitor and guide pilgrims. Make regular announcements requesting pilgrims not to bring plastic bottles and inform them about the penalties for violating the rule. Arrange a real-time waste collection by volunteers Set up a small waste recycling plant near the mela site. This will help process the collected plastic immediately and reduce the amount of waste left behind and be used for making useful products like chairs, tables toys etc.

before going to zero waste management, I would like to prioritize devotion rather than digitalization of footprints. 1.organize the public activity area. 2.traffic monitoring in temple zone. 3.bio degradable waste toilet arrangement. 4.strict monitoring of plastic bag sale. 5.separation of dry and wet waste. 6.then transporting the waste to the waste management hub for further processing. 7.cleaness is not a lifestyle it's a daily habit all people are smart enough to think. 8.respect the place and collect your waste before leaving.
