Handloom products constitute an integral part of the India’s heritage and culture. Showcasing various vibrant aspects of the cultural heritage of India, the handloom sector provides employment, directly and indirectly to over 43 lakh handloom weavers, belonging to socially and economically weaker sections of the society particularly in the rural areas.

Varanasi has a rich cultural heritage and Banaras silk sarees and crafts are an integral part of the Indian landscape. Varanasi handloom makes India proud of its heritage. The handloom and handicraft products of Varanasi have got wide recognition all over the country and abroad for their highly artistic design, colour combination, superior craftsmanship and long durability.

Keeping in view the vision of making the handloom and handicraft industry of Varanasi and neighbouring areas, market oriented and for generating productive employment, the Government of India is setting up of a Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum to develop and promote the handlooms, handicrafts and silk products of Varanasi and to provide necessary help to weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs of Varanasi for boosting their marketing activities in domestic as well as international markets and carry forward the rich tradition of handlooms at Varanasi.Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid foundation stone of Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum on 7th November 2014 at BadaLalpur, Varanasi.

Your valuable views and opinion is sought on the concept and facilities/services to be provided in the Trade Facilitation Centre and the Crafts Museum at Varanasi.

1) Trade centre & Museum should be connected to public transport. 2) It should be spacious and if possible, it should be designed by a interior designer 3) All airports in India should have Indian made / traditional items shop in duty free zone, which should have local made traditional items. This will attract tourist / travelers, mainly foreigners. 4) Same way all major railways stations should have a shop.

People value goods when they have a brand associated with it? Why do we buy swiss chocolates or swiss watches, because they have a brand associated with it. Govt should actively promote branding of Varanasi as well as our traditional products using various media and train and help the manufacturers brand their products and enhance quality also.. Most importantly tell the story as to why these products are unique. this will help increase the value and sell more

Sir I think we should maintain a beautiful modern museum with traditional style of working on handloom machines. The way things are made manually. Finally make a display of finished product as a beautiful modern gallery at appropriate price may be little high to gain some foreign exchange and use it for society.

The best way of Promotion of Information and Communication Technology systems in school and adult education is to allot all the possible allocable opportunities of learning and promoting to the privileged reservation categories and corrupt, selfish persons, like chaiwalas who fulfill their dreams "around the world" at the cost of nation's money, shot slogans of good doing to the poor.

There are online platforms like villcart.com and exclusivelane.com where the handloom makers can directly sell their products. So, I suggest that these people should be educated in using internet to sell their products. That way, both the buyers, the workers and the technical startups of India will benefit from this whole process.
